Asus VW246H or Samsung 2233RZ?

I have posted a couple times around here trying to get information. My last post had a lot of 1920x1200 talk which I gave up on now, so I figured it would be alright to post again:

-I have one main purpose: gaming. I could not possibly stand for any ghosting or lag. This is the #1 issue for me by very far.
-I do also watch movies exclusively on my PC. This would be my first LCD and I am still pretty clueless about the topic. I know picture quality on a PC is nowhere near what I would see on a bluray player. But is there an improvement in picture quality when going up from a 22"/1680x1050 to a 24"/1920x1080?

Since I do not even know what can be done on a PC as far as HD is concerned I do not know if this should be a factor in my decision.

A)Asus VW246H
Pros:
-I have been looking for a 24 inch since day one. This seems like a good one. There seems to be a lot of good ones though.
-Reviews state that response time/black depth/otherstuffIdonotquiteunderstand in gaming are good
-The resolution
Cons
-Not 120hz

B)Samsung 2233rz
Pros:
-120hz
Cons:
-Not 1920x1080

My questions - please comment:

1)Am I correct in thinking that both these LCDs are great for gaming?
2)When watching video - is the 120hz a bigger pro than the 1920 resolution? Which screen will be best when it comes to show off my movies?

1920x1080 is not a good resolution for gaming, generally. Standard PC resolutions are 5:4 (1280x1024), 4:3, and 16:10. 1920x1080 is a 16:9 resolution, 1920x1200 is more standard.



2)When watching video - is the 120hz a bigger pro than the 1920 resolution? Which screen will be best when it comes to show off my movies?


120hz will only be different if you watch videos at 120fps. Most videos are 24 or 30fps.



EDIT:

You probably couldn't convince me to ever buy a TN panel again. If you want a good screen, look into getting a VA or IPS panel.

I was hoping for more 120Hz monitors but it seems like we're stuck with those two. That Asus monitor is excellent for gaming and is one of the best since it has no ghosting or input lag. The Samsung also is good since it can display double the frames and have less tearing. They're both excellent but I don't see the point in not buying something below 1080p since they are so cheap these days. I personally would go with the Asus.

I actually own an Asus VW246H monitor,its excellent for gaming,blacks are good and colours very good for TN panel(lots of different colour setting options), it has very fast response time and I don't know why some people say 1920x1080 is bad since more monitors are coming out at this res and a lot of games support the standard 1080p res anyway,it has plenty of inputs also being 1080p its good for movies too.
I have had mine for 6 months now and it has given me no issues.

Personally if you going to look at the Samsung 2233rz, I rather spend a little more for an excellent IPS 60Hz monitor.

120hz will only be different if you watch videos at 120fps. Most videos are 24 or 30fps.

That is a load of hogwash spoken true to someone looking to mislead someone else into making the same financial decision in purchasing a product similar to what they have just to make themselves feel better about their own choice.

1920x1080 is a resolution in the 16:9 aspect ratio, the aspect ratio the vast majority of games are being developed for when we consider console development (and whether you like it or not, the fate of PC gaming is at the mercy of consoles).

The only area a 16:9 PC monitor would be bad for gaming is trying to play older games that don't have proper support for widecreen, however chances are that if they don't support 16:9 then they probably won't even support 16:10 either (ie 1920x1200), of which you'll just have to put up with stretching, scaling, pillar boxing...which really isn't that terrible a fate.

Can someone explain the relation between the 120hz and IPS? I thought IPS screens just gave you a better viewing angle with an input lag tradeoff.

Since my #1 concern is gaming I thought IPS screens were out of the question. Especially since they seem to go for an extra $200 over TN panels.

My budget could be stretched if it made sense to do so. I am not planning on replacing my LCD anytime soon so I'd rather spend more and get it right the first time.

IPS give the best colour and viewing angles,some gamers prefer the trade off slighlty slower response time of IPS for superior image quality in gaming.

Its all personal preference really,personally I have used them all from TN,VA to IPS for gaming.

TN is normally the gamers choice for fastest response time and great value for money.

Yep, same panels. I have a VW266H and it's just amazing for gaming, not bad for work and movies either.
