Shouldn't have access to more wealth-related things like houses? I guess, but that's how power has worked since before recorded history and it doesn't just go away, especially in a country where corruption is legal because legislators write laws that exempt certain people, or in other cases, just don't write laws against it.

Maybe. I think if you look at Alito's entire history, he has been willing to land on the worst possible decision due solely to him being a worst possible person. The cash and fringe benefits are just icing on the cake for people like Alito. I don't think he becomes a better jurist just because he can't get free shit from other worst possible persons who he pals around with.I mean, I think it kind of drives at least SOME of the awful decisions he reaches as that 1/9th of the branch.
