Well that's what happens when Americans can't use performance enhancing substances!

Wow, they are getting owned. The 2nd day of the Olympics, and already there's no way I can see them catching up to China.

C'mon, there's over 1000 medals being awarded. It's waaaaay too early to say how the US will perform.

Unlike America, China and Russia both compel their athletes with life-changing financial incentives. In a nation like Russia one would get a $50,000 monthly pension for winning a single gold medal, while getting a gold medal in China would almost guarantee a popular clothing line or business venue. For the athletes in Russia and China, gold medals aren't simply about practicing to be your athletic best, it's also about striving to live a life that can be comparable to living in America or another economically advanced nation. Americans are neither pressured by these financial burdens nor are they forced to become the best like some athletes are in China and Russia.

China has never won a medal from track and field in the Olympic Games. Does China have any black athletes these year? Guess that will be a big ZERO again this year in T&F.

There will be some U.S. athletes that will do very well coming out of this olympics, but that vast majority will sink into obscurity even if they do medal.

China always owns early because of the way the events are set up. Once you get into running events then China starts to go down in the medal counts.

US medal winners get compensated by the government and coperations just like every other country.

Anyhow, come on, the Olympics just started a couple of days ago this is hardly any indication of how the US will perform. Also I think most events are pretty independent of each other. In other words a piss poor basketball team is in now way at all an indicator of how well the swim team or track field competition will be.
