Hey all,

i'm trying to make a quieter computer for my digital recording, and was thinking about moving back to my modest InWin A500 i got a few years ago. Versus my LianLi and Coolermaster, its soooooooo much more quiet. I'm even gonna line it with some computer grade Dynamat.

But, i'm concerned if i can stick something as hot as an Athlon 1900+ in there. It'll have an Alpha 8045. i guess it would be ok now, but during the summer months, i dont have air conditioning. obviously, i dont have much room to overclock and dont plan to for such mission critical work as recording.

should i be concerned?

Why don?t you put some low speed fans in either the CoolerMaster or LianLi.. Why go back to an InWin when you have a CoolerMaster and LianLi? Pham has nice selection of very high quality and quite Adda fans. Also putting dynamat in your case is going to do next to nothing to cut down on noise, you'll just end up with heavier case.

I wouldnt suggest it.
On my A500 the PSU is about 1 inch from my hsf. the top of the psu (it's sideways) has vents on it, and it's actually sucking hot air out of the psu and putting it on my heatsink..I run mbm and it's overclocked a little, hottest it's been is 53c under a full load. I'm going to upgrade to a better case. I am however impressed with my taisol hsf. It's not noisy at all. If noise is an issue, maybe you should consider getting the taisol hsf. My Computer is downstairs in my house, and i'm approx 8ft from a woodstove that we keep running 24-7 (It gets cold in Michigan) It's usually hella hot in my room too. but anyway, other than the PSU problem it's an OK case...it's no overclockers dream case but it gets the job done.

I bought InWin A500 and Athlon 1400 with a cheap HSF a few months ago. This setup sucks! very noise and hot! The CPU could reach as high as 59C and system Temp as 40C when the ambient was only 20C something and it sounds like a jet. But I didn't want to mail the case back, it cost too much. So I simply returned my Athlon 1400 and bought a 1600+ , a Alpha 8045, 2 enermax adjustable fans and some cheap thermal grease since at that time newegg ran out of their siviler II. This should work I thought. And it did worked out after putting them together! Now the CPU runs like 40C, sys Tem 30C when ambient is about 20C. See the difference? I know I am not overclocking it but remember I turned both enermax fans to their slowest speed that I can't hear them at all!

The realy trick here is how to turn a bad thing to be a good thing. After putting them together, the distance between the PSU and the CPU fan is only 1 mm. But the Fan is sucking air away from the 8045, that means all hot air goes directly to the PSU and then out of the case. Well if you own a A500, you can easily imagine what I am talking about.

By the way, for the assembly you have to take out the PSU first, get the 8045 on board, put the board into position then put the fan on inside the case, then put back the PSU. But after that, you are free of heat and noise.

My 2 cents
