I am looking for a cpu for my new GA-K8NS Ultra-939 mb and can not decide if I want a winchester or a newcastle. Can someone tell me the difference in performance of the two. Or can someone just help me decide which one to get for my new gaming system.

Winchester outperforms the Newcastle in benches slightly. The Winchester will also consume less power than the Newcastle. If you're into overclocking, the Winchester has also been shown to overclock better than the Newcastle.

What the... couldn't you form your own opinion from the information you were just given? How much clearer could it possibly be made for you? How's this: IF YOU ARE DECIDING BETWEEN TWO DIFFERENT CORES OF THE SAME SPEED, GO WINCHESTER

It's a matter of preference. I don't overclock now, but like the fact that the 90nm consumes less power. Also, I know that if I'm ready to overclock some time in the future I'll have a great chip to start from.

Keep in mind that for the 939 platform, the 3000+ and 3200+ are only available with the Winchester core. The 3500+ is the only socket 939 processor that's available with both cores.

If you want to save a few bucks then get the 130nm Newcastle. If you can afford it, go with the 90nm Winchester.

Newegg prices:
3500+ Newcastle (retail) $267
3500+ Winchester (retail) $290

OK I got one another question. In ams 64 does the duel channel memmory really matter that much. From what I have heard there is not that much difference in duel channel and non duel channel amd64.

a64 is far less dependent on memory bandwidth then a p4, so it doesnt matter as much as with p4's, however it still has an impact and in some cases it has a noticeable impact (anywhere from %1 to %20 i think, though most cases will be 5-10)
