Welcome to the Forums, newpers

You could fill out that list as follows:

CPU: Athlon64 3200
Video Card: GeForce FX 5900
Sound Card: SoundBlaster Audigy
Optical Drive: DVD-ROM 16x XJ-HD166 Black
Optical Drive 2: CD-RW 52x32x52 LTR-52327S
Floppy: SFD321B/LBL1
Motherboard: Asus K8V Deluxe
Hard Drive: tons of options, depending on whether you want tons of storage capacity at a good speed, or a smaller amount of storage capacity at blistering speed, or mediocre performance with near-complete silence
Memory: Corsair XMS 3200C2 512MB modules x 2
Case: Antec P160 aluminum case with stealthed optical-drive covers, temperature readout, front ports
Fans: 120mm exhaust fan comes with the Antec case
PSU: Antec TruePower 430
Other: consider getting a memory-card reader that fits in a 3.5" drive bay, if you use a digital camera or other device that uses memory cards like CompactFlash, etc

or you could get the Antec Plus1080AMG, which comes with the TruePower 430 already installed.

Mobo: Asus K8V Deluxe
HDD: WD 120GIG 7200 RPM . If you want to go serial then a Barracuda SATA or the more expensive 74 Gig WD Raptor (Edit:And I agree with what the person said above that there is lots of options, any 7200 RPM ATA100/SATA drive will work great)
Memory: Kingston HyperX 3500 or Corsair XMS 3500. You could get 3200 rated ram but your chance of overclocking later on is limited.
PSU:Antec 380-430 watt.
Case: Coolermaster PAC-T01 or TAC-T01

Don't use registered memory with the a64 3200. Get the normal Corsair.

REGISTERED MEMORY WILL NOT WORK IN THAT MOTHERBOARD.

I think he already has the FX5900...? If not, FX5900 non-ultra is price/performance king right now.

Just 512MB? Sheesh, FX5900, A64, and 512MB don't go in the same sentence.

Why should they?

Since you have an Nvidia card, I assume you like the 5900. Many people (cow123 and myself included) do NOT like them. We like the 9800pro, or if you have the money, the 9800XT.

The reason I chose the GeForce FX 5900 over the ATI Radeon 9800 is I will be using it for OpenGL applications more than DirectX applicaitons. Is the PSU strong enough, too weak? Also, do I need any other cooling devices (for video card?)? I will be doing no overclocking. Thanks again.

We all posted at the same time, sorry. I do not own a FX 5900 right now. I also chose that because it was cheaper. I will be purchasing the other 512 MB in a couple months after I build the system. I am low on cash.

You need 2 x 256MB Dimms or "Twins" because you would want the memory to work on the duel channel set up. The athlon 64 would need the bandwidth for optimal performance.

This is what you want: NewEgg Link

SO MUCH MISINFORMATION in this thread it's driving me crazy.

DUAL CHANNEL MEMORY is not supported with Athlon 64 3200+ motherboards. Dual channel is only available with the Athlon 64 FX.

And yes newpers, that ram will be fine.

Whoops, I'm terribly sorry. The 3200 64 only has a single channel memory controller.

Geezus! I'll never spend $418 for a CPU. You must have money to burn.

BTW.. I'd go for the Seagate hard drives over all else. The WD are just too damn noisy! They start out somewhat quiet and then develop this annoying whining sound after a couple of months. I originally thought it was a fan and was surprised to find out that it was my hard drive making all the racket. I thought that the only noise that the hard drive made was the seeking noise so i was wrong.

I'd also look for a quieter case fan. Look at the specs of the fans at SVC.com. I hate the Antec fans because they are too loud. Look at something like a Panaflo or Zalman. Then again, you might want a hair dryer to make sure your expensive ass CPU is plenty cool.

Do people forget that the SiS 755 chipset has been shown to outperform both VIA and Nvidia, or is it that people don't want to recommend ECS because it is not a highly touted name like Asus.

Since the ECS 755-A is starting to show up in the retail channel I would at least consider it an option. Why settle on anything else before even looking at what could be a cheaper and quite possibly better performing option.
