Athlon XP 1800 heat

At about what temprature should my XP 1800 be running at and what is way too hot? It runs at about 50 degrees C usually. I was just wondering if that's good or not.

50C from a socket thermistor on what motherboard? Anything below 65C is acceptabe IMHO.

what program do u guys run to see ur cpu temp? or do u look in the bios?

I use ITE SmartGuardian which came with the Dragon+. It's known for being a couple of degress too low however.

Only run it when I want to check, uses 100% cpu

I use Motherboard Monitor (MBM). My Athlon XP 2000+ never goes above 44 degrees celcius. I have removed the retail hsf and installed a Volcano 7, with the white silicon goop that comes with the Soyo Dragon+ board.

No problem there. My 1600+ does like 48ºC when my case temp is 33ºC....it always seems to be 15ºC above case temp. This is on an 8KHA+ where the proc is cooled by an 8045 with an L1A (no case fans )

Yea, my 1700+ runs about 55-56 under full load, with retail HS/F with the case closed, 1 intake and 1 exhaust fan. It used to be at about 48 degrees idle. But after my chipset tweek it sits at about 29 idle.

What chipset do you have?

Enermax 80mm fan (running at 1000RPM)
Arctic Silver 3
in Lian Li PC-60 case with 2 80mm front intake fans and one 80mm exaust (running at medium speed)

= 35C case temp
48-50C CPU idle temp (measured from CPU thermister via Hardware Doctor software which came with my Abit KR7)
52-54C full load temp

I think that if I up my CPU fan speed I could get a bit lower, but I'm not overclocking or anything so I am not too worried about it. Around 50C for Athlon XPs seems to be pretty good. Some people get down to 42-45C, but they have got some serious modding going on. I much prefer the quiet and lack of holes in the sides/top of my case.

Is the concensous that hovering around 50C is pretty good for an 1800+?

I run about 32 C idle with a case temp of 22 C. 35-36 C load (Alpha 8045 with a ASII and a 49 CFM fan). Always run about 10 C over case temp. So when it's 32 I run about 42. Nothing fancy. There are some folks over at Viahardware and AMDMB who have gotten insane temps like 15-16 C idle with some registry tweaks and good cooling. Mine doesn't seem like anything extrodinary compared to what other folks report.

Athlon XP 1800+, Thermalright SK6 + 24cfm YSTech, Lian Li PC60 case = 44-47C full load. Case temp around 25-28C.

I don't think yours is too hot.
