Hi everyone,

I have an Athlon XP 2600+ Tbred core which I intend to overclock. I'm still new in the world of overclocking. From what I know, increasing the FSB is much more stable than changing the multiplier. Is is true? If yes, can I increase the FSB to 200Mhz just like that w/o using additional cooler?
What other settings from the BIOS should I adjust with the increasing FSB? Just now I tried to increase the FSB to 171Mhz and a few minutes after it, blue screen appeared, then I changed back to its original state, 166Mhz.
My mobo is Soltek SL-75FRN-L with Kingston 2x256 DDR400 2.5CL.
I hope someone will be able to provide me with the solution.
Thanks b4.

Cheers,
Eric

there is no "more stable" way. Both have the end result of getting more ghz. Multiplier would probably be more stable, as your not overclocking the fsb and ram, so less stress on componants.

What kind of cooling are you using? This can impact your oc. Also, try raising the cpu voltage just a tad bit. I recomend never going above 1.75 volts but thats just me.

I'm using the normal cooling from AMD, standard HSF. My CPU voltage currently is 1.7v. How does it affect the system if we increase the voltage?

The cpu can run higher clocks more stable with a higher voltage. Problem is, voltage dramatically increases heat outpuy and shortens cpu life depending on how high you set it. try setting it to 1.75 then try booting at 175fsb or something like that.

Ehmm so is it ok if I increase that high using the standard cooling?

you cant kill it that way. if it crashes just go to bios and turn it down. Rememeber, no one can guarentee 100% a comp will not die from something. Overclocking is predictable, but not 100%. if you are willing to take the risk go for it.

Remember, whatever you could oc that cpu to, the performance difference will be minimal anyway. just make sure your willing to take the risk.

I got it stable at 171Mhz 1.75 volts. At least it is stable. Thx for the help anyway.

running a 2000+ at 2600+, 1.675v on stock cooler

best fsb around 182mhz- ne higher & blu screen, got no agp/pci lock on my a7v8x, - not sure if u have a agp/pci lock on yourz? and 2 lazy 2 google it- n0t my pr0blem!
If u dont- crank the multiplier- won't screw your gfx kard etc... otherwise crank the fsb- if your mem can take it then u will inc mem bandwidth- set the mem to auto- then go for the best timings u can get @ a stable speed & temp.

Mind u- at 2600 my cpu is rather warm, esp in perth's up to 40'C temps- not really comfortable pushing the voltage higher- your call there...
