Whip our your pocketbooks on this one $410, and newegg will only sell it with mobo/fan. So your looking at a good $500+ worth of computing goodness.

I doubt this will last too long.

Also many other 333FSB CPUs in stock as well.
2600 - $298
2700 - $359
2800 - $410 (must be purchased with mobo/fan)

Bleh. So much for AMD being cheaper than Intel. I'm happy with my Intel 2.4B running at 2.6, which I got for less than $150

the insanely high prices are only gonna last until other people get the chip in... ::COUGH:: googlegear ::Cough::

newegg is just hoping to get a few sales at top $. not a bad strategy for the Rich-@ss SOB's who can afford the newest chip at day 1.

Im still happy with my tbird, over 1 year old, running at 1.76GHz. Paid 104$ for it from newegg.

Thoroughbred, Revision 1 has CPUID of 680 and begins with the code AXDA2200DKV3C.
The "K" means it's supposed to run at 1.65V.
The second line of code will begin with something like AIRGA

Thoroughbred, Revision 2 has CPUID of 681 and begins with the code AXDA2200DUV3C
The "U" means it's supposed to run at 1.60V.
The second line of code will begin with AIUAB

Thoroughbred, Revision 3 is a 333 FSB Athlon.
Last letter in the code of 333 FSB Athlons is "D": AXDA2800DKV3D

[Last letter in the code of 266 FSB Athlons is "C".
Last letter in the code of 200 FSB Athlons is "B".]

333MHz FSB allows reaching the processor bus bandwidth of 2.7GB/sec
"squeezing" the maximum performance out of DDR333.

$410 that's funny for an amd. I have a 2400+ that will do 2640mhz for half that and i doubt the extra 200$ will get you any faster.

For tha much you might as well buy a 2.8 intel for cheaper, and crank it and extra 500mhz.

I like either it doesnt matter to me, but the price does.

He he, you guys are dime a dozen.
Next year there'll be thousands of others just like you, sayin'
"Oh, I'm gonna wait for ClawHammer price to go down."

No you won't, you'll buy Palomino 1600s at Newegg just like you do now.

And then, sadly, two days later we will see Intel selling the 266Mhz celeron for $400 again.

Hehe, my 2.4G dell was under $260 shipped. Plus... jeez, $410? C'mon seriously. Now that AMD has announced that they no longer consider CPUs their main biz it will be be all intel all the time.

AMD has already lost its competitive edge. Their latest cpu's are way more expensive than intels. I remember buying the 1.4 Tbird the fastest cpu then (At the time it was a month or two old) for less than $150 retail box. Right now few can even consider the Xp 2800+. I am finally defecting to Intel. I am considering the 2.4 or the 2.53 p4 a better deal for anyone on a budget

AMD 2800 xp performance is better than Intel. this is not expensive compared with Intel CPU. Price is not bad compared with Intel $700.00+, $410 is a reasonable price.

Since when does an Intel 2.8 cost $700?! Last I looked they were $380. on Pricewatch.

And what doe you get by spending more money for AMD?
http://www.anandtech.com/cpu/showdoc.html?i=1718&p=11
Wow, you're right! The 2800+ is 4fps faster at UT2003. I bet you can really tell the difference between 186fps and 182fps.

http://www.anandtech.com/cpu/showdoc.html?i=1718&p=12
Ooops, on this page the 2800+ gets beat in 2/3 games, although again you could never tell the difference.

I went with AMD when I bought my 1GHZ Athlon 2 years ago, and my 1600+ a year ago. (and they weren't even close to $50 then) I don't know what I'm going to do for this years annual upgrade. My KT266A motherboard will take up to a Athlon 2600+. However, they've got them priced so close to Intel now that I don't know I won't try a P4. I've never had to monkey around with motherboard drivers as much with Intel as I have with VIA. (e.g. how many times have you seen try the latest 4 in 1s suggested?)
