I've contact ATI/AMD regarding a shadowing problem that has been noticed in several DX9 titles (specifically Titan Quest, but there are several others). Google search has revealed many others with 2600 and 2900 series cards having exactly the same problem. ATI/AMD assigned a ticket number and has put an ATI Engineer on the issue.
Some "rumors" have indicated a design flaw that can't be fixed via firmware and/or driver updates. Since shadows (shader) works fine with other titles like AOE III, Rise of Legends, and many others it is really likely to be a design flaw?
I've confirmed the problem with HD 2600XT cards and currently have put on hold all 2600 and 2900 PC builds (including Crossfire) til I get some word on whether or not this issue will be fixed or even can be fixed within a reasonable time frame.
I know a thing or two about DX9 programming but I've not been able to reproduce the problem using my development tools (VS 2008 Beta 2 nor VS 2005 SP1). Does anyone else have more info on this problem and perhaps can shed some light?
