Anybody have more information on the hybrid x-fire? Specifically, using this with a 3870? If you already have a 3870 and nobody would buy it from you because it has little value, then why not just CF, get a few extra frames?
How much does a 3870 fetch used nowadays anyway? I know the resale value for a 8800GTS 320MB is abysmmal (~$80)Originally posted by: Stoneburner

Good to know, because just my 9800GTX makes the whole room heat up on some nights if I've done enough gaming. I think I will invest in aftermarket cooling as well when it comes out.
But what about release dates. Is it officially June 25th for the HD4870? I've read mixed reports.
I'm hoping I can order one of these things next week if they beat the GTX260 hard enough.
The cooler on the 9800 GTX is very good. Fanspeed is dynamically controlled better than most cards I've had. Spins up, spins down. It's not the quietest cooler, but it works well. I'd not bother with an aftermarket. The card will kick out the same heat regardless of cooler.
Anandtech 4850 review say July 8th on 4870 release date..

I'm a bit disappointed that all 8 cards at NewEgg today are exactly reference designs with stickers applied for company logos. Honestly, how hard is it to plop your own cooler on to a known PCB design? :| Oh well.

Yes, you can CrossFire these with 3800 series cards.

@op 4850 xfire should be = gtx 280 when you factor in the games that DON'T scale very well. in games that do scale, it should be quite a bit faster. check out your favorites and see how they do in xfire, if they all scale well then you'll be gtg. what mobo do you have btw?

call it a hunch.... but i think the one labeled as 4850 is the 4850

Laugh all you want, but when I replied there was no way to denote which score belonged to which card.
Good to see the 4850 still spanks the pseudo-9800GTX+, and will still be cheaper.
Gotta account for the magic drivers still.[probably reduced IQ...]
LMAO so correct
I am glad that ATOT isnt fooled by the low blows that Nvidia constantly deals, its not that I am PRO AMD, I couldnt care less which company goes agaisnt them, I just want them to go down because of their stupid "our costumers are so dumb they will believe us anyway" tactics

yeah, I could see 4850 going for over $200 pretty quickly. of course, nvidia has done a great job in putting a plan in place for this eventuality. I know that we're all pissed that they were deliberately down-clocking the 9800gtx, but we've known this all along, right? I

Does not seem to do so well in Crisis and there appears to be some scaling issues with Crossfire as 8800GT SLI is beating it.
