Then why did you bring up the 260?

Clutching at straws... It beats it in enough games that matter, at settings that matter.
It does?

Tell that to the several people on this forum who already bought the 4850
I must have missed it, where is the link to newegg or zipzoomfly so I can see the price and specs. Thanks.

They have done none of the above, only spread rumors. The 9800gtx is still $260+ at gougeegg.
How much is the 4850 at Newegg?

And while you're so busy dismissing Nvidia's last gen cards, what has Nvidia released to replace those last gen cards?
The GT200 series. Where have you been?

Those cards are all NV has at that price range, and will continue to make more rehashes of last gen for at least several months more.
Like the 4800 series, which is not even out yet.

Look we are just going in circles here. I will just agree to disagree.

err... are you that blind that you will go in circle to win arguments that you can't win.

4800 IS able :! just go buy one at another retailer that is selling them like :
http://fxvideocards.com/Sapphi...deon-4850-p-16386.html
http://fxvideocards.com/Vision...n-HD-4850-p-16381.html

Err...

I don't get why people get mad that ATI releases a card better than the 9800GTX for a lesser price... fanboyism and elitism is never a good thing.

Just buy the best for your money, the brand doesn't matter and now ATI is releasing cards with excellent value for us customers unlike the "I just want to be the fastest no matter what" GTX series from NVIDIA.

I can't believe how cheap it is these days to set up a system

Midrange CPU ~200
Good Board ~150
2GB RAM ~35
Good Video Card ~200

I remember spending

low end cpu ~250
low end board ~100
1gb ddr ~150
midrange video card ~300

So much bang for your buck these days

You must have been buying from the wrong people. You also neglect that the E2160 from Intel is a great overclocker, I have mine @ 3Ghz & it only cost me $75. Also you can find a decent motherboard for $100 or less, if you don't need SLI or the LANPARTYGAMERXTREMEDELUX3Z edition. Actually now that I think of it I don't think I've ever spent more than $100 on a CPU. This goes back to 2000/2001 when I got a Duron 600 & ran it @ 950Mhz.

Not everyone overclocks....

I had bought
E6750
P5K-E wifi
OCZ gold 2gb
8800GT (near launch)
for ~720 shipped and w/taxes
I got the best prices at the time I purchased (Jan)

Whereas my older machine costed 800+ and performed much worse compared to what was available at the time.

Now that you mention it, its true... In about every game in which CF works, it scales 100% In COD4 it even scales more than 100% LOL?

32 fps vs 67 fps... Way to go AMD

Cool, it seems that I was right about nv hiring janitors to write the drivers.

That's what a lot of us are trying to do. But any decent discussion of cards' merits inevitably gets mucked up by drones on either side.

BTW : Haven't bothered to stick my head in here for awhile now. Have things gotten better now that nRollo isn't playing cloak and dagger? Anyone remember "fair and balanced"?

LOL

I find it quite interesting actually. Everytime I purchase a new computer and need a video card nVidia has the best bang for buck! I was pretty close to buying X1900XT when they were dirt cheap but I never did. And now im sitting here with a 8800GT.

I used to be all AMD from Tbird 1400 to 3200+ but C2D swept the floor and I jumped ship.

Brand loyalty in a market totally determined by performance seems to be a very poor choice.

Now when it comes to something like a case, sound card or somthing like that, usability and quality really comes into play.

For a video card FPS for the buck is almost all that matters

Intelligent response considering that they are where they are from the kids buying their cards.

So who are really the monkeys? The ones making the money or shelling out the money?

Nvidia knows what their doing...if they didnt, They wouldnt be leading the graphics market.

So, i clocked the 4850 to default and then we found the new said freq. for 9800 GTX+ "740mhz, 1900Mhz and 2.2Ghz"

The rigs have almost the same things now "Q6600 @ 3ghz and 2Gb ram except that i have a X-fi Audio sound card and he has a X-fi Music"

Crysis:-

1920X1200@ 4xAA and 2xAF - 20.84 4850
1920X1200@ 4xAA and 2xAF - 12.97 9800GTX+

Bioshock:-

1920X1200@ 0xAA and 0xAF - 108 4850
1920X1200@ 0xAA and 0xAF - 101 9800gtx+

Quake Wars:-

1920X1200@ 4xAA and 2xAF - 59 4850
1920X1200@ 4xAA and 2xAF - 57 9800gtx+

Merged in from another thread

i'm think that's more of an issue with AMD stumbling in their acquisition of ATi for a little bit other than nvidia's superior hardware. both company's have always been trading blows and changing leads.
i dont see nvidia releasing anything that points towards the graphical progress of cinema 2.0.

1) Who the hell cares which company has the better card. Just buy whatever the hell you want. Clearly no one is going to admit they are wrong so let's just end it.

2) If it truly is all about performance, then it shouldn't matter how nVidia competes, whether it's a rehash or not, if it outperforms the competition for a similar price, that's what I'll buy.

3) nVidia and ATi leap frog eachother all the time (a little less in the recent past), this is nothing new, all we can really do is go along for the ride.

I for one will wait for the recent competitive madness to simmer down. I'm use to seeing GPU competition, but this is a little more competitive than i've seen. I do own a 680i mobo and I would like to see nVidia stay on top of ATi (lol) for my own sake, but I'm not gonna dry hump nVidia's leg to be sure of it. What happens, happens.

I would go for the 4850 for the same price... my 4850 does AA much better than my friends 9800GTX in terms of performance hit!!

QFT.

I see no need to fight. As some more sites come out with reviews, surely we'll see which card is "better."

Personally I would prefer a 4850, I'd like a card that doesn't require a giant cooler like the 8800s and 9800s. (I still love my 8800GT, though)

Cmon ATI you can do it woohooo, i think ATI are back in the running with this new line up nevermind the 4870 beating the 260GTX, from what the 4850 has shown i think the the 4870 could be on par with the 280GTX.

call it a hunch.... but i think the one labeled as 4850 is the 4850

Laugh all you want, but when I replied there was no way to denote which score belonged to which card.

Good to see the 4850 still spanks the pseudo-9800GTX+, and will still be cheaper.

Gotta account for the magic drivers still.[probably reduced IQ...]

It will probably take a 4870x2 to really compete/outperform the GTX280, but that's alright with me, that's the way ATi has chosen to play the game, single-card multi-gpu low-price
