Hopefully they make a clock and memory speed standard they are all required to reach. I don't want to get some underclocked pos.

Yay! ATI got smarter! (Finally!). Now ati will make more money this way, and will focus (hopefully) on making good drivers.

good move for ATI (corporate wise) probably one of the best moves they will make. almost as good as buying artX

Yeah I think ati was just waiting until they got enough 3rd party support to stop making their own cards. I think visiontek will take the same place for ATI as it once did for Nvidia.

Supposedly the All In Wonder boards will continue to be sold under ATi's own brand name.
I wonder if this has any bearing on the FireGL series.

i wouldn't believe it just yet. I don't think it is a good sign. Sudden changes like this scare me. Especially since they've battled their way to where they are now.

If it's true then IMO it's a bad idea for consumers, I've used alot of the "powered by ATI" video cards and in general they have poor build quality and slower memory or gpu speed than superior "built by ATI" video cards.

It's a good news day for us Nvidia fans and for Nvidia, that 99% market share will be achievable!

OEM quality will be hit or miss depending on the company that makes them IMHO,will ATi have any high quality control over the OEM companies like they do with their own built cards,I guess only the future will tell.

As far as OEM companies go, I think that really it is a matter of the company that is makeing the card. I mean, there are some NVidia companies that I would never touch just because of their poor quality of cards in many aspects. Where as there are also cards that I would love to have just because of the fact the they run so beutifully.

It's refreshing to know that since for a while only Powercolor (crap), Sapphire, and ATI themselves were selling the cards, and Sapphire made the cards that ATI rebadged as official 'made by ATI' products.

so it seems that they will still make the AIW cards, which is cool, because if I go ATI again I was thinking about getting either an AIW or one of those beautiful Hercules cards. I'll reserve judgment on how I think the industry will react, but it may not be a bad business move after all.

Powercolour make cards with above specification clocks in some cases. What's crap about them?

Has anyone actually tested/bough a Visiontek card, haven't seen anything of them actually being about.

I wouldn't really trust any site for this kind of thing unless they have some real quotes from ATI.

straight from the horses mouth:

ATI has changed its distribution structure slightly to make selling through distributors more attractive to our board partners. Nothing else, including our support policy, has changed. ATI will continue selling its whole range of "Built by ATI" boards to major retailers in North America and directly from our web site. Europe and the Asia-Pacific region will continue to be served entirely by board partners. The change will make our products more widely available and get them into the hands of customers faster.
