ATi Trade in program again

The last time they did this, there were some great deals. I havent been in the market for a new Vid card, so i cant even tell if this is a hot deal, but take a look if you want.

mmmmm looking at the list prices on ATi it doesnt look like much of a deal, if any!

Yeah the trade in is not that good even if you have a crappy graphics card that has no resell value. I have an ATI 8500 AIW and it would be stupid to trade it in for $50.

Yes, any video card will work as long as it is a video card. You can send in an old 512k ISA card if you want.

Am I missing something here? Here are the prices for the three PC video cards at NewEgg

Radeon 9000 Pro - NewEgg@$125 / Trade Up@$99
AIW Radeon 8500 - NewEgg@$262 / Trade Up@$249
Radeon 9700 Pro - NewEgg@$342 / Trade Up@$349

Of course, this doesn't factor in s/h charges and also assumes ATI refunds the security deposit. I like NewEgg as much as the next guy but NewEgg doesn't seem to beat the all of the prices. I'm just trying to figure out why this deal is so "cold".

APC does the same kinda thing with there ups-trade up progam, its cheaper to buy it anywhere but from them.

catrats: It's cold because you can get any of those cards cheaper elsewhere. Given that fact, what would the point be to go through the hassle of sending your old card to ATI. The only time this would be even viable is if you had some POS that had absolutely no value whatsoever, then you'd be paying as much as you would be elsewhere, which leads again to the question of why you would go through the trouble just to pay the same as everywhere else

just like cliftonite said, no one should even consider it unless you have something like an old 4MB s3 card. This is not a hot deal for sure. you can get the same price from some e-tailers with no rebates

PS: somebody was selling 9700 pro for $315 shipped on sales/trade forum. now that might be a hot deal

I have yet to see a trade in/up program be better than the net pricing....I think these are excuses to take older equipment that will compete with new item sales out of the market.

The only real deals I have found happen here.

This is a hot deal for people looking for the Mac verison of the Radeon 8500 at $149. Newegg has the best price on it at $237.

I may need to get an old RageIIc PCI out of the drawer and trade it in.
