Not a surprise, which is why imo I stay away from big red machine. CCC blah blah driver issues left and right. One version works other crashes your comp. hmmmm

CPU is 89 degrees C, I can't tell you what the MB is because I don't have a probe on it.

Thermal throttling.

Break out a can of compressed air and clean the inside of the case out + the heatsink.

Then make sure none of the CPU pins on the heatsink popped out of place (if stick cooling or using push pins)

If that doesn't help remove the heatsink and clean off the cpu and heatsink with a coffee filter and some isopropyl alcohol. Then re apply new thermal paste and re-seat the heatsink.

If temps don't come down then the thermal probes on the motherboard or cpu are broked and one of them needs to be replaced.

Sorry, I misread my temperature monitor on my case, it's set to F not C, so it's 31 degrees C.
That sounds like your idle temperature rather than your load temperature. With an idle that low you probably don't get hot enough under load to throttle, but it wouldn't hurt to go ahead and clean out the computer anyhow and then look at CPU and GPU temperatures under load (say Prime95 and Furmark respectively).

For the sake of being able to offer better help, I'd also suggest running CPU-Z and GPU-Z, taking screenshots of their respective information tabs, and posting those. That way we can clearly see just what hardware you have, just in case there's anything amiss there.

Finally, in the case of WoW it may be your RAM holding you back. WoW has always been a RAM hog; I don't play it any more but 2GB may be cutting it close these days.

IIRC, there was an update for WOW a few/several months back that increased default graphics detail and eye candy. People saw pretty steep drops in frame rates. I think you have to enter the game settings and drop the detail or visuals down a notch to return it to the same quality setting prior to the update.

The video issue is probably a codec and/or player problem. Too many people installing those crappy codec packs when they just cause more problems than they solve.

Well, if it's not your temps, it's not the video card, and it's not a lack of CPU power...my next guess would be to blame the hard drive.

Download HDTune and check the health of the drive. Then, run the benchmark. A standard 7200RPM drive of that era should be averaging 40-50MB/s. If you start seeing lots of massive dips into single digits, that would probably explain the hitching you get in games.

Wasn't the HD either, just spent 6 hours putting in a new SATA (7200rpm) and installing the OS and WoW, still as choppy as ever and that's with a clean install of Win 7 Ultimate and the latest nVidia drivers.

I'm at a loss.

I am using the same CPU in an optiplex 745 with 2gb of ram and a radeon 5570 (OC'd) the system has handled everything I have thrown at it nicely, And I can even manage SC2 @ decent rates. Something else must be affecting your performance.

I put in a nVidia GT 420 today with the latest drivers, no dice.
When the post is read, already thing the Nvidia card which uses the same result and the operation of being tried you will already see.

Have you tried going into the BIOS and selecting the "Default" or "Optimized Settings" options? Perhaps the previous owner was playing around in there and hosed up some of the settings. Selecting one of those options will hopefully set the BIOS to its factory settings. Perhaps also check and see if there is a newer BIOS available and read its release notes. It's remotely possible that this is an issue that has been addressed by an updated BIOS.

Also, try removing one stick of memory and playing around with the computer for awhile to see if it improves any. If it doesn't, try removing the remaining stick of memory and replacing it with the one you previously removed. It's possible that one of the sticks is bad and is causing problems.

Which AV are you running? I have had a problem with microsofts security essentials real time protection and video playback.
