ATI's demos

Hey, has anybody tried ATI's old X800 demos with their X1800? Demos like "The Doublecross", "Dangerous Curves", and "The Project". None of them work correctly for me. I know that they were built for the X800 and aren't supposed to run on anything else, but I expected a newer generation ATI card to be able to run it.

I just sent a ticket into ATI, but I want to hear if anybody else is having problems. It's no biggie, I won't mind if it isn't possible, but I'd prefer to be able to watch those demos.

The demos built for the X1800 (The Assassin, Toyshop) work fine, though. (And they look amazing).

maybe they were specificallycoded for the x800 architecture and use specific instructions that were changed in the x1800s.

btw, it's not just you Gstanfor, but for everyone, if you have nothing to add to a thread dont post, it's that simple. A lot less crap/fud/flames this way.

Well, if you were to believe the fanATics ATi's drivers are "superior" becuase they are WHQL qualified, updated every month and all problems are quickly addressed (amongst other claims).

I say if they can't run ATi's olde demos on modern cards, what hope do they have of running anything from 3rd parties?

My 6800GT can run every demo on nVidia's nzone demo page (including the 7800 demos) and even a few ATi demos to boot (hello Ruby).

I ran those on my 9700pro.
They still work on my x850xt.

Well aren't you special. What were all those uninformed ATI owners thinking when they bought their cards. Maybe you should post up your e-mail address incase any disillusioned people think they might want to buy an ATI card one day. I'm sure you'd set them straight.

And your point? Is it that nVidia can run demos better and faster? Wow, impressive..... I think after reading that I would be a complete fool to buy anything besides nVidia! Thanks for the info, I have seen the light!

Actually, I've had terrific tech support from ATI and never had a driver problem.

Those demos used SM2.0b I believe. X1800 still has SM2.0b doesn't it, or was it deprecated because SM3.0 came along?

Nah, I've got bigger fish to fry. Like Target, DMV, IRS, MS headquarters...

I need The White House, Capitol Hill and the Supreme Court to use as a puppet govt.

While you're at it please fry Revenue Canada's HQ. They operate in terrorist manors like the IRS as well.

Gee Wizz. I actually remember that my 9500nonpro couldent run the DX7 Demo for the original Radeon. I was annoyed.
I guess that i should have bought an Nvidia product then too (the FX series).
I am thinking that each ATI demo is tailored to the currant gen card......just like in consoles to show full capabilities.
Maybee ATI should waste time and emulate the demos.

All of them? On your X1800XT?

The Doublecross and Dangerous Curves don't render anything for me, any ideas why?
