I originally posted this in General Hardware...It should have been here. Sorry.

I'm planning a purchase for a 7800 GTX. I've read about alot of problems with the GT...bad ram and artifacting, needing a bios flash or RMA.

Im trying to get an idea if the GTX has similar problems, or if it is much more stable.

If you own an Evga GTX or other brand, Please let me know which one, and your experience with it.

IT IS GREATLY APPRECIATED. THIS WILL REALLY HELP MY FINAL DECISION.

THANKS GUYS.

I'm an ATI fan but I bought my 1st Nv card in September. I have an EVGA 7800GTX and I like it a lot. No problems at all. Very pleased with this card.

ASUS 7800 GTX
Clocks at 495/1350 for daily use, made it to 520/1380 so far for benchmarking. I've never had any sorts of problems with it, bought an NV silencer and it's all good

Wow...looks like the GTX is alot more reliable and stable than the GT...even when overclocked. Not one complaint of artifacting or lock-up problems yet. Good to hear.

Alot of you guys adding new cooling though...is it absolutely necessary, or is it an overclocking issue? If I run at out of the box speeds, should the stock cooler be sufficient?

Also... you guys running the Asus and Leadtek, are they the extreme versions...
The Asus Top and Leadtek Extreme look pretty awesome! as does the EVGA KO.

Which brings up another issue... Are the Extreme Overclocked cards worth the xtra coin? Anyone have an extreme card and a reference...Any real performance difference.

They should all O/C the same but I believe this are handpicked cores so ya there probably is a differance.

Good point Ripper...this is what I was wondering. Are the core's used for the Extreme/Overclocked higher priced cards, hand picked...highly overclockable/stable. Or just a basic reference board with a better cooling system added, allowing a higher core/memory clock.

ddogg...is that the KO version or are you running the regular that overclocked?

Hey guys...if its not too much trouble, please list the model number or name of the board with your clock speeds.

Thanks again...Carry On!

XFX 7800 GTX

really really noisy at start up but the fan doesnt spin that loud during games. It used to artifact but ever since i added more fans to my case, temps droped significantly and now it runs just fine

See my sig. No problems so far. Really quiet, really cool (47 idle-63 max). Overclocked it a few times @ 518/1350, no artifacting, but no sense into doing it, as I earned just 200 3d marks in 2k5, processor limited. Highly recommend Leadtek.

I had a eVGA KO before I have this eVGA GTs. I would have to say that the KO is much much quieter, and it's didn't give me aritifacts in games either unlike now!!

Well...Im impressed. Not one problem of artifacting so far!!!

Keep em coming guys.

Do you guys think the Extreme/OC upper priced cards.. Asus TOP, EVGA KO, Leadtek Extreme are worth the extra money?? Im eyeing those three. Anyone have the Asus TOP? Sure looks awesome.

Problem is...once I get into the $570 range, Im entering X1800 XT Zone...
What to do, what to do??

I'm thinking about rma'ing my xfx gtx oc because I think the stock overclock is just a tad bit high for my particular card cause I get slight atifacts after some heavy gaming. What happens is that I will get a very quick white flash of a couple of textures and then they go away. Almost like on fight club when they edit in the porno, hehe. It is very brief and and doesn't happen frequent but I dont wanna have my card sh!t the bed. I have tried using different drivers and it still happens.

Dude, I had a link to the Leadtek VIVO Extreme for $509 in on eof my threads a while back, that would be the obvious choice as it sports that cooler that they used for the 512.
