I'm sure this problem has been covered before & I did search with no luck.
For many years my wife & I have struggled with a audio problem. When watching TV or movie, mostly movies, to hear the dialogue clearly, we had to turn up the volume to a level unacceptable. At least unacceptable to her. We do live in a condo with close neighbors so it can be a problem. It's OK during periods of dialogue, but then BOOM! dialogue ends & it's way too loud for my wife & neighbors.
The solution is to turn it up & down continually. Very irritating.
As time went on, I figured it the way the movie was recorded & broadcast. So I got a stereo TV. Didn't help. Later on in an attempt to fix it (without researching it or anything, just advice from a friend) I got a surround sound system. A Sony Home Theater System model HT-DDW700. Problem still. I've messed with the settings, read the manual even, ran auto-cal over & over again, but me thinks nothing is broke, it sounds great, it's just gotta be louder to hear the dialog.
Today we were struggling with a DVR recording of a movie, turning the sound up & down through the whole thing. Wife wants me to solve it. She went so far as to... shudder... turn off the Sony & use the Samsung TV speakers!
Obviously I am a complete noob & at this time do not want to take the time to educate myself on HT audio. All I am hoping for is an easy fix.
Any suggestions are welcome.
