I hope he was using Monster cable when he did his comparisons, or everything he wrote is irrelevant.

My first thought was: Sure if the device is doing reading data, doing some transcoding for DLNA and then whatever does DLNA -> raw data conversion -> the DAC, that maybe the device could cause it to sound a bit different because the software may have been different causing some variance in the transcoded sound stream... then I started reading it was reading a raw FLAC off many devices and comparing "sound quality" I rolled my eyes and closed the browser tab.

Data is data at that point. A fool and his money....

Yeah. If network storage devices introduced single-bit errors into data files often enough to be noticed by listening to them, the internet would break in about 3 seconds and Wall Street trading would stop in less time than that.

I was sad they didn't have comments enabled on the article.

Where is the coconut cable guy when you need him? I'd love to read his response to this. He's probably off tweaking his bathtub water cooling system.

I haven't seen him post in awhile. You have to admit though, his ingenuity for that bathtub system was impressive.

And, he used expensive power cables, not audio cables IIRC.

All I know is that if I store my 64kbps MP3s on Western Digital hard drives, they sound better than when I used to store them on Seagate hard drives.

Probably from the clicking noise of your Seagates breaking

Possibly, but it's a little known secret that WD coats its platter with Armor-all and has a microscopic green line on the platters as well.

/Good grief, I'm old and wonders if anyone on hear knows wth I'm talking about.

That website is notorious for deadpan audiophile humor. It's like the onion.

I'm surprised you guys didn't know this.

Well, on HERE at least one person remembers Armor All and using a green Sharpie on CDs. But I was laughing at audiophile idiocy long before that, so I guess I'm old too.

I've heard that a sterling silver HDD enclosure gives the purest acoustic tonality.

When I first got my plasma TV I was reading about them and came across burn in DVDs for plasmas. They had instructions to download the iso and burn it onto a disk then play it for twenty hours or some crap. Closed the browser tab and just watched some movies. I've had the TV for around 5 years and it still looks great without any image retention. Dumb asses need techno-rituals to appease their digital gods.

One of the reasons I got my Synology NAS was due to the lack of noise it generates. Fan noise that is.
