Averatec also has a newer Centrino version the 3300 series, should be around $1100 as well.

i saw the 700m in person and i have to say i wasn't all that impressed. the keyboard is too small and its quite a bit thicker than the averatec. try getting averatec's new pentium powered ones if you can.

Sams Club has a very liberal return policy along with cheap extended warranties. I'd recommend getting the averatec from them with the extended warranty, that way if you have any issues you can do an easy exchange.

These two can't even be compared. That machine uses an ancient xp-m that runs burning hot so the fan needs to run strong (loud) and nearly all the time. Battery life is likewise terrible. You at least need to compare laptops that use the same chipset.

Pentium M is obviously the better processor, but the Averatec does give you alot more laptop for your money. To get the 700M with the same specs it's going to run you $1666 but there's a $300rebate. Plus the standard 700m battery only gets 2.5hrs (Averatec has about the same battery life) so if you want move you'll need to shell out another $60 for the extended battery (which gives about 5hrs).

I seriously doubt you'd notice any performance difference between the two notebooks either. Personally I'd probably go with the Averatec since you'd save nearly $500.

Ok, that's what I was thinking too(averatec). It's for my girlfriend and she doesn't do much with it, no games or anything like that. I guess i'll be going with the averatec. Anyone else have input, thanks guys.

my dad has had an averatec laptop(forget the model) for over a year now, and it's been awesome. the thing is insanely small and has one of the best integrated wifi systems i've seen. i'd go for the averatec, they're systems are great, and they're cheap.

They go on ebay for ridiculously cheap (even from reputable sellers). 700m's don't have a lot of options, except for memory and hard drive space/speed and built-in wireless options (intel vs broadcom). $900 will get a 1.6 pentium-m with the extended battery and the intel g wireless. Don't pay more for a 1.7 or faster chip, it's not worth it.

definitely go for the centrino if you can afford it. intel's been a player in the mobile market for much longer than amd. with laptops, also try getting it new from a retailer as opposed to ebay. warranties are so important...just my opinion.

I got a 700m, very happy with it. Put in a 7200RPM 60GB hitachi as well as a NEC DVD Burner and very pleased with this small laptop. I came from an hp zt3000 and no regrets at all
