Re-visiting an old thread. Times have changed, choices change. The wife bought a 2016 Honda Hr-v as we needed a dog hauling vehicle. Nowhere near performance anything unless you're counting hatch space. However fun is on the horizon! We have a new garage, and we are getting a new approach poured next week, along with some work to our 300 foot driveway. After that we are going to buy her a 2020 Hyundai Veloster N with the performance package. We drove one a few days ago, it is a really fun car. You can actually pick one up for under sticker...

Because it's a Hyundai See if you can find a slightly used one. Resale value is not good.

Holy crap...I remember when this was first posted. My first thought was

"She is going to end up in a CUV like 85% of 'My wife wants a new Sporty car''' story."

Congrats on the incoming Veloster. Sounds like Hyundai finally sorted out their chassis tuning culture over the past 2 years.

Yes, hard to believe it's Road and Tracks performance car of the year, but it is what it is. We have money down on a red one, just in case. It will be about 10 days before we can bring it home.

Congrats. Lots of performance for the money, for sure.

Did you consider a GTI? Just looked at my local VW dealership last night, and they are giving really big discounts on them. Wish I was in the market right now, the price is outstanding.

She doesn't like the VW interior or exterior at all. It will be her car, not mine. I also do not like the VW aesthetically though.

My post was not meant to criticize your choice. Each buyer is certainly entitled to buy what he or she likes. Personally I am not sure how I feel about the Veloster. It is certainly unique and gives a lot of performance for the money.

I didn't take it that way, no worries. I myself would choose differently than my wife. Her first requirement is that it be red, I'm not kidding. After that she just goes by how it drives/feels to her and how much she likes to look at it. I have purchased vehicles in the past based on cost and practicality/reliability, and everything else being equal I haven't loved driving those vehicles. There have been only a couple of vehicles I have had that I would get in them just to drive around because I liked driving them. Two of those were sportbikes lol and one was a 1994 Acura Integra GSR.

I didn't realize they only offered this in manual. I assumed they also had the option for whatever 7s DCT that they spec.
