Does anyone know where I can find this game at a decent price? A buddy of mine told me about it and I really want to try it.

I think you'd be hard-pressed to get it for less than $35-$40 unless you get it used.
But just about any game/toy/hobby store should carry it.

I found one place online for 33bucks but after shipping it was 40. I can't find it anywhere around here where I live (southern Alabama) because all these towns around here SUCK!

I really hope I can find it now. I liked Risk some, but from what everyone told me A&A is much better.

Chips & Bits has it, but for $45, but they are a good place to check when looking for board games because they have a pretty decent selection. I used to have a site bookmarked that had good selection and prices on board games like A&A and all the old AH bookshelf games, but I don't have the bookmark any more. Have to go hunt that down.

Edit: $40-$45 is probably what you would find it for in most stores, unless they have a used copy. They released a new version with the European and Pacific theaters as separate games. Not sure if the original is still in print.

I never liked it as much as Risk. It's a bit too one-sided. Unless the Allied players really do something bone-headed, they're really almost guaranteed a victory.

don't like that game much....

if you get good players allies always wins....

try shogun(aka swords of samurai), in my opinion it is more 'random'

only played fortress america once so no opinion on that one...

loved conquest of the empire...too bad i can't get a cheap copy

--

try age of renaissance, good game, only draw back, boring for the loser

it always plays out like the war, only really really good players vs really poor players can make axis win, its strange how it works out like that.

That and it takes full-on 8 hours to play. One time I was friggin Venice and the guy who played Genoa couldn't get Risk out of his stupid head. He would NOT compromise on which territories we wanted and he spent the entire game beating the sh!t out of me despite the fact that it was clear that he was simply dragging us both through the dirt while the 3 other players ran to the Far East and made out like bandits.
Every time he started grabbing my territories I'm like "WTF! Why are you doing this? Go after the LEADER!"
He says "You're nearest me so you're my biggest threat."
"ARE YOU AN IDIOT?!"

Not in my experience.

Unless you have really good Allied players, the Axis will win economically the majority of the time.

ah, we have game nights like this... it's always at my house because i have a big house, and since we're all adults now... we're enjoying the fruits of our labor by playing games. i have TONS of boardgames my other favorites includes titan, history of the world, settlers of cattan(all sets), advanced civ, hmmm that's all i can remember for now...

we know each other since high schools so we don't play like that, we usually go after the leader. unless it's one of those cut throat games that's short and has memory (you remember how you're screwed the last game, revenges continues on the next game). "i don't care if i'm losing, i'm taking you down because you fvckd me" or "it's just you" are phrases often used in when that happens...

You just aren't playing well enough if you can't win as the Axis. Move fast and move aggressively and Jpan and Germany can do immense damage.

dude, it is well known that allies has the advantage.....

that's the reason why in official turnaments people bid for allies....and they
make rules to make them weaker.. (like russia not allow to attack on the first turn)...

The game is determined by whether germany (and to some extent japan) do really well in the early battles. Germany has to push into Russia fast and get some good dice rolls early. USSR has to fall early. In my experience anyway.

I have a vendetta against that game. I made the six and a half hour drive to visit my then-boyfriend at college for a weekend. Spent between 5 and 6 hours sitting on a couch, reading, waiting for he and his friends to finish playing it. Second place to a board game isn't fun.

exactly. the key to an axis victory is quick action. if the axis powers just wait around, of course the industrial potential of the us and the allies will overwhelm them. the axis cannot be timid. too often, players appear to play as individuals. i attribute this to the 'risk' factor as well. it is no myth. i have seen axis victory in 2 hours.

because of the time investment though, i usually just play stratego.

Ahhh yeh. We do that, too. We either play at my brother's house or drive to his friend's house in MA where we spend the whole weekend playing games, watching movies, drinking....doing "guy" things. Nerdy "guy" things.

I could list games for hours....but we often play:
Settlers
Citadels
Carcassone
San Marco
Star Wars: The Queen's Gambit
MageKnight Dungeons
DragonMaster
Lord of the Rings
Age of Rennaisance
Where's Bob's Hat
Tichu
Web of Power
Tikal
Java
Bohnanza
Cosmic Encounter
Drakon
Tennis Masters

You get the picture

<< we know each other since high schools so we don't play like that, we usually go after the leader. >>

This dude was (is) a long-term friend of ours. He just couldn't get one simple concept through his thick skull. In RISK, in order to attack someone, you have to attack an adjacent territory. Your neighbor is a threat.
In Age, you have these wondrous things called BOATS and when your boats are good enough you can go most anywhere on the map in a single turn. Your neighbor is NOT necessarily a threat, especially after you decimated him and took his capital the first turn....grr...

haha
we often do that to each other in Settlers, Bohnanza and Cosmic. Since you often rely on the other players for trades and support, you're like "Well, I could give you something useful, but after you SCREWED me last night, FORGET IT!"
hehehehe
