I'm going for only 2 weeks. No solid plans except for I will be going to London, Montpelier, and Oslo.

I read through the other thread that was made a while ago. I'm pretty much just looking for any information anyone wants to share. It will just be me and my gf that are going. I know someone in Oslo and in Montpelier so those places should be comfortable.

Advice, tips, things to watch out for etc...

I had a money related question for my trip to Europe. Is it better to mainly beneficial to take money there from here, use ATMs there, or just primarily use a credit card.

Also are there usually extra fees associated with using any number of these services there? If so... do you know of a credit card or something of that sort that is extra fee free?

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

The ground between London and Oslo can be squishy so be sure to sno-seal your boots before heading out.

Bring twice as much money as you expect you'll need, for a start.

Edit: And have a good time, this opportunity doesn't come around often!

Ok, I just asked because it could be a little bit far from your other destinations.

Consider using low-cost flights... they are cheaper than train, although I always thought train has its charme when backpacking

Two weeks is not a lot of time, use it wisely. My suggestion is always few places instead of just trying to run around the continent and stopping for just a few hours in each city.

If you have any question feel free to ask me...

Euro Rail Pass. Best way to travel. If you are under 25 it is a lot cheaper than flying (go ahead and check the prices).

And two weeks isn't even long enough to get your feet wet. You need to spend a month at the minimum. Try not to spend too much time on the train, but rather spend time in the cities or outlying areas.

Do they charge extra for people over 25?

That or they charge less for under 25. Euro Rail is mostly meant for youngsters, to make traveling cheaper.

I went for 2 months last summer, it was awesome.

There are usually ATMs/banks pretty much everywhere. Using credit cards was actually harder than I would have thought. We usually pulled out 40-100 euros at a time. I got hit with fees I am sure we just made sure we always used a STAR atm, I think it was because the fees were lower if you had a STAR visa. I would definitely pull money out as you go though as the fees aren't that bad unless you are pullling out 10-20 at a time.

Be careful about using budget airplanes because they sometimes dump in you in a less than popular airport and it sometimes costs quite a bit to get from said airport to wherever you were actually going. Just something to think about. We had a Eurorail pass and it was great.

I started putting tips and stuff on my website at europe.marcyes.com but that kind of stagnated when I got a job after I got back. You might want to check it out though for general tips and stuff. Also, you can pm or email me if you have any specific questions. Good luck...
