Backup Outlook Information

Hey how can I backup my emails and adresses in Outlook XP?

I have tried it before but when I re-import the information all it gives is the Email title but no text or the address book entry name but no email address?

How can I back it up so I can have it good as new after a format?

Outlook and Outlook Express store the user data file in two different places, i'll assume your using Outlook 2002 for xp and not the express version. Simply locate the outlook.pst file and back it up. It stores in by default in the documents and settings folder, but you can move it anyplace you want, and point outlook to it.

For Outlook XP [2002]: FILE-IMPORT AND EXPORT-EXPORT TO FILE-PERSONAL FOLDER FILE (.pst)-SELECT FOLDER TO EXPORT FROM. Here's where you choose what info you want to export, for example your Inbox and Address Book, or what ever you would like. Then click NEXT and follow the instructions. To "Import" your info, just go FILE-IMPORT AND EXPORT-IMPORT FOR ANOTHER PROGRAM OR FILE-PERSONAL FOLDER FILE (.pst)-Then browse to where you saved the file. Hope this helps Joyride.

Since you're using outlook... why not get a handy little program that will automatically backup your PST file for you and store it in a location you specify on weekly or daily (whatever you set it to) basis.

You can find the little program under Outlook 2000 on the microsoft office site. It's offered as a free download from MS. I believe it's called pfbackup.exe or something like that.

Read about it... it's great... i have it run every 7 days and it backs up my *pst file to a network share... so incase of hdd failure... i don't lose any of my email.
