Backup Question

Need to purchase a backup drive but can't seem to find one that is relaible without spending $500. And maybe a mirror drive is the way to go. Can anyone give me some input on which way or an external drive that is affordable.

There are some really good backup ideas in this thread:

Nutshell: buy a 500GB SATA drive from WD or Seagate, put it into a powered external SATA->USB enclosure. RAID-1 good for immediate replacement of data when you need 0 downtime, but not as safe.

do what roquest says but use a raid1 setup too still, much less than $500
