Backup software

What software do you reccomend to use to backup data for users in a business environment. Backing up to a server (NAS) is not an option at this time. Most users have ext. HDDs and we are lookign for software that is easy for them to use and is reliable.

What kind of money are you willing to spend?

We have a small workgroup (6-7 computers) and we use Stomp MyBackup software. It's very similar to Backup Exec and is fairly easy to use.

Right now we're using MS Backup. We need something more customizable and something we can get a site lisence with. Mostly managers will be getting backup drives. We have about 3500 employees, I'm not sure how many managers there are, I'm sure a lot.

Have you had any problems with Stop MyBackup? I'll check to see if they have a demo, thanks for the info.

is free. We use in in a business environment to backup a database nightly. And it's free too.

I use Second Copy ( http://www.centered.com/ ) It is an awesome little program.
I use autocad all day (& night sometimes) and then 2nd copy backs all of my drawings up to a 2nd hd at 3:00am. I have it configured to where it only backs up *.dwg files and not autocad's automatic back up copy (*.bak). Anyway, it works great is cheap and easy to use....check it out.

Tapeware 7 is pretty cheap too, I personally use Legato Networker, but thats for allot of high end systems.
Backup Exec is my favortie for small offices.

It depends on the type of backups you want to do. Do you want the people on workstations to worry about their own backups or a centralized backup solution? I like Backup Exec and my clients seem to be happy with it, but it ain't cheap. They also have a workstation backup but I have no experience. On the workstation side, I have used Retrospect and was quite happy with it.

I've used Stomp Backup MyPC and it gave me a ton of problems. The backups always seemed to work but way too often they would fail to verify. I tried backing up to CD-R's and DVD+RW's, both failed far too often. I doubt it was a hardware problem because when I burned CD's/DVD's with Nero they always verified perfectly. I finally gave up and Ebayed it to try and get some money back. Now I just use an external 120GB USB 2.0 HD and directly copy all my data to it every week.
