Bad Games that you liked

I figured since there was a thread about good games that you hated, there could be a thread about bad games that you liked. I suppose bad games could be defined in a few ways. Games that were unpopular, got generally poor and/or mediocre reviews, and/or games that sold poorly.

Postal 2. This game was pretty mindless, but it was kinda fun blowing everyone away and using the flamethrower and some other weapons. It was a bad game, but I had fun with it dammit!

Deus Ex2: People seemed to hate this game, but I had a lot of fun with this one. I really liked the biomod enhancements and weapons upgrades, even though they were fairly limited. My favorite thing was using the biomods to control the various hostile robots.

I dont like "bad" games, for the same reason I dont like "bad" movies.
Most of Ben Stillers and Will Farrels crap qualifies. I dont believe in that "its so bad its good" bullshit.
They suck. And their movies suck. And the fact they are so popular makes it that much easier to explain why our country elected Bush, twice.

Wait, where was I?

OH YES!

I will share some games I loved but werent popular and didnt sell well or become "classics".

American McGees Alice.
Total Annihilation: Kingdoms.
Disciples 2.
Septerra Core.
Dungeon Keeper 2. (This one may have actually sold quite well, but after Bullfrog got destroyed people seem to forget about it quickly.)

Probably several others. Let me think for a day.

EDIT:
Unreal 2.

Deus Ex: Invisible War is the best example of this for me. If you can look past its (considerable) flaws, there is a lot to like in it. I was very disappointed by it the first time I played through it, but it has grown on me a lot with successive replays, especially in comparison to other FPSs that have come out the meantime. It still contains a lot of good ideas that we haven't seen since then.

Another one is Unreal 2. I think this game was mainly bashed for having nothing to do with the first one, but it had some exceptional variety in its map environments and the weapons. The story was fairly bland, but not any worse than average for an FPS. I found the combat and exploration fun without paying much attention to the plot.

games that sold poorly.

These are not really in the same class as "bad games" IMO. There have been a lot of games over the years that got sky high reviews and were loved by everyone who played them, but still sold badly.

Lands of Lore: Guardians of Destiny. It was dumbed down compared to Throne of Chaos which killed off most of its hardcore fanbase and since EA bought out Westwood not long after releasing it, the game didn't enjoy a long shelf life either. I guess it didn't get very many bad reviews (it has a 74% on Gamerankings), but it has no lovers aside from me.

To clarify: I am not putting "poorly selling games" and "unpopular games" in the same category as "bad games." It just makes more sense to make one thread with three similar categories than to make 3 threads

Prince of Persia 2 and 3. They weren't as good as the first, but I still enjoyed them.

American McGee's Alice

I used to play Asheron's Call... it was the least popular of "The Big Three" American MMORPGs at the time (UO and EQ were much more popular, but AC had a fantastic storyline)

Kane & Lynch: Dead Men

That's the only one I can think of that got fairly mediocre reviews but I still liked. Not sure why though, I'm thinking I just needed a mindless action game at the time.

Hmmm, I could perhaps say Dark Messiah. Some people liked it yes, but I feel that it deserved more popularity, more attention and recognition. In my book it'd score a solid 9.0/10. I even preferred it over Half-Life 2, but that's the goal of this thread right? To prove to ourselves that we're part of a minority believing what we're believing.

You sir have great taste. I didn't know anyone but me even knew of Septerra Core. Also, TA: Kingdoms was good, but only when hardware finally was able to run it smoothly about a year or three after its original release. That game was the Supreme Commander (as far as system requirements are concerned) of its day. Finally, I thought Alice was actually received pretty well. I didn't like it due to it being 3rd person. I hate 3rd person controls with a keyboard and mouse.

B&W2 [it was good after it was patched]

Deus Ex: Invisible War [it was compared to DE, unfortunately]

Fable: Lost Chapters [everyone expected too much]

Prey & Quake 4 were pretty unpopular; i like them OK

i thought American McGee's Alice was popular - i liked it even though it was ultimately "hack 'n slash'

Riddick - EfBB was great - but not "popular" i think

Max Payne: FoMP - was not popular like the first one - but i liked it as well

is Hellgate: London popular? - i really like the SP - despite its obvious faults

Xenogears got panned by a lot of reviewers and it's my favorite game of all time. (The GamePro review sticks out in my mind. Eff you Boba Fatt!)

Shadow Hearts, Assassin's Creed, and Xenosaga are others that stick out.

I think this thread needs clarification. I assume you are looking for games generally recognized by the gaming community as suckfests, that you enjoyed anyway. People listing Stalker as a bad game they liked? No friend, that's a good game you liked. I don't see how a games' sales reflect on its quality at all, so I'd object to calling a poorly selling game a "bad" game. Maybe it was a "badly marketed" game.

I'm really liking Jericho at the moment. Course, I've read everything Clive Barker's written so maybe I'm biased.

I enjoyed Kane and Lynch, most called it a bad game. I also liked SiN Episodes, not sure what the end verdict was on this game, but I know there hasn't been another episode since =/. I liked GUN, although I can admit it was ultimately somewhat flawed.

What else was considered bad....

Xenogears and Shadow Hearts are classics. We are looking for bad games here... Xenogears is to bad as water is to dry.

Assassin's Creed was an OK game, dig deeper. Bad games are generally considered "DO NOT PLAY THIS"

A lot of people ragged on Doom 3 but I really enjoyed it. There's no accounting for taste.

Agreed

Unfortunately D3 was popular .. so many people ran out and bought that turkey the first day - based solely on reviews that worshipped the graphics
- i did; $30 sale! - finished it the first week and sold it
-the worst game i ever completed

of course, some loved it ... but it sold well enough to Resurrect the Evil expansion.

Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines, it got average reviews since it was buggy, and sold poorly since it came out the same time as HL2, but it's one of my favorite games.

Nexagon, it got poor reviews and hardly anyones even heard of it, but I thought it was a fun little tactical game.

I wouldn't consider American McGee's Alice a bad game. I thought it sold well also. I liked it, and everyone I play games with liked it. Someone bought the film rights, and there was even talk of a sequel. American McGee is currently working on American McGee's Grimm.

agree, think it should be games that had bad reviews and were never really liked by the gaming community.

Can't think of any for me.
