What else was considered bad....

Sin Episodes still sucks because they aren't going to complete the game/story.

I've liked all the new Need For Speed titles, starting with Underground 1. They're dumb, mindless games, with stupid FMV cutscenes and cheesy wannabe-gangsta dialogue that was obviously written by scrawny white guys who probably don't even know anything about cars OR street racing, but I like them anyway. I think Most Wanted was my favorite, though Carbon was pretty good too.

I also thought Most Wanted was an excellent game, but it generally got good reviews and was well received around here. The cheesy movies were hilarious, but the core gameplay was very solid and the game had a lot of content in general. I don't think I ever beat the challenge mode actually, as I got stuck on this one level where you drive a minivan. Maybe I should fire it up again.

Kororinpa Marble Mania for the Wii got generally bad reviews by the critics...averaging around 70% at IGN/Gamespot, etc...but I thought the game was incredibly good. Absolutely flawless controls that would be impossible on any other system. The game is very addictive and fun... I'd give it a 90%+

and it seems normal players agree with me.. It got a 69% from critics on Metacritic but a 95% from gamers..

Most of Ben Stillers and Will Farrels crap qualifies. I dont believe in that "its so bad its good" bullshit.
They suck. And their movies suck. And the fact they are so popular makes it that much easier to explain why our country elected Bush, twice.

Wait, where was I?

OH YES!

I will share some games I loved but werent popular and didnt sell well or become "classics".

American McGees Alice.
Total Annihilation: Kingdoms.
Disciples 2.
Septerra Core.
Dungeon Keeper 2. (This one may have actually sold quite well, but after Bullfrog got destroyed people seem to forget about it quickly.)

Probably several others. Let me think for a day.

EDIT:
Unreal 2.

You sir have great taste. I didn't know anyone but me even knew of Septerra Core. Also, TA: Kingdoms was good, but only when hardware finally was able to run it smoothly about a year or three after its original release. That game was the Supreme Commander (as far as system requirements are concerned) of its day. Finally, I thought Alice was actually received pretty well. I didn't like it due to it being 3rd person. I hate 3rd person controls with a keyboard and mouse.

I am suprised too, I stoped bringing up Septerra Core to friends because no one ever knew what I was talking about. I have all those other games too except Desciples 2.

Painkiller. Move, move, move, Kill, Kill, Kill. One step below Serious Sam.
Oh, and Serious Sam. Multi-player co-op was pointless, but mucho fun.

Not really a PC game (though it was ported to PC), but this game called Chaos Legion was pretty well hated and bashed by critics but I still had fun with it.

It wasn't about good games that we hated, it was about high-rated games that we hate.

Anyway, unlike most, I actually like Hellgate London. Also, I don't understand why people don't like Unreal 2, I understand that it wasn't like the original, but it's not bad.

I kinda liked the demo on PS3. It had a cool concept. Problem is, the shooting devolved into a pretty crappy and repetitive game.

Other stuff includes Quake 4. One of the best single-player experiences I've had in terms of immersion.

Outlaws from Lucasarts. The reviews were average, but I thought it was the shit back then. Amazing musical score too.

how can you like a bad game?

I wouldn't go there, I tried to argue this once but a lot of people feel that reviews and sales numbers are more important factors in determining a good game than your own personal enjoyment of it.

EDIT: This thread is about games considered to be bad games by the community, which I guess would mean reviews and such.

I loved Doom 3. It reminded me of Doom 2 the way it was made. I had much more fun with Doom than I did with HL2, because I could just relax and play. I didn't have to work to figure out what I needed to do.

I go by the games i played personally, and what the community has to say about it.

I don't trust on the reviews, and much less care about sales number.

indeed it's sad to see a whole bunch of good game companies gone down, because of the sales numbers.

like: Interplay, Sierra, Westwood studios, and much more...

Have to add this one..

Rayman for PS1. Great fun...beautiful music and hand drawn backgrounds. Strange worlds and characters...lots of fun. Only averaged 70% on gamerankings though.

One of the NBA Shootout games (I think it was '98). I had it and Live, and every critic loved Live and hated Shootout. I enjoyed Shootout a lot though; the blocking in it was completely over the top. You could finish a game with 100 blocks or more. You could also do between the legs dunks with virtually everyone. As far as being realistic, it was terrible, but it was still entertaining.

I liked the Clayfighter games when I was younger, and they sucked ass.

ROFL at Clayfighter, that game was such a POS, yet we could not stop playing it!

People around here seem to hate Halo: CE for the PC, so I guess that would be the "bad game" that I really liked. In fact it was pretty much all I played (MP) for a good 6 months or so.

None of the games I listed were BAD. Like I said, I dont enjoy BAD games, but there are tons of good games floating around that either got ignored entirely or mediocre reviews and went to bargain bin almost immediately.

Just for reference: I tried getting into the Geneforge games and couldnt do it, so apparently I dont enjoy every alternative RPG. But I love going over these lists and finding stuff thats not getting tons of hype.

I love Galactic Civilizations 2 also, but that one seems to be getting very popular, so maybe we cant put it on this list.

For RTS's I prefer Act of War and TA:Kingdoms to the more famous titles.
I guess I should at that to my list as well, Act of War. Much less popular than C&C Generals and a hundred times more fun.

Also liked Homeworld Cataclysm. I still dont know why so many hardcore fans hated it and why it didnt attract new people to the series.

EDIT:

I second Postal 2. What's more fun than playing golf with a flaming decapitated head, whose flames will set afire the parade ground that I just doused in gasoline, with in turn will set fire to a herd of stampeding circus elephants?

Black & White as well. I've heard many people diss the game and I don't know why. It's very innovative and interesting. I've never liked something like my Creature in a game before.

Hmm.

Do they have to be BAD or just not AAA?

I had a blast with Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, which got decidedly middling reviews all around. I think the reviewers should've tilted the rating up 1 point/10 (or equivalent on their scale) just for pure fun-factor. That game has some of the most insanely fun first person melee combat ever, and I don't care what anyone says, being able to kick and through furniture/whatever at your opponents is just gold. Really lends some hate to the fight.

It's the combo possibilities that make the game. Setting an enemy on fire and then kicking him into a pool to put him out, only to fire lightning into the water. Sneaking up behind a guy, silently backstabbing him, then throwing his body into his buddy, knocking him off a cliff. Freezing the floor so your enemies slip and fall, and then running them through.

it's kind of the same magic from BioShock, but with more potential for combat comedy.

It's too bad their awesome gameplay mechanic was glued to utterly forgettable characters and a cookie-cutter story. That game could've been a classic.
