Built a computer for a buddy recently.

Asrock
8GB G Skill
560Ti 448 core(eVGA)
win 7 ultimate
600w OCZ PSU
2400S i-5
Running the drivers that came with the video card

I dropped it off Sunday, showed him BF3(reason he machine built) and played the game for a a few hours, ran fine. Ran all night for him with no problems. Got a message from him today saying there were "spots(artifacts)" on the screen. Also said it said "Display driver has stopped working".

Here's a few pics he sent me explaining it:

Is the GPU going bad? This built has been a huge headache(first with the MSI mobo). Or could be a simple fix that a driver update would fix?

It does sound like a driver issue to me. I would try the latest one off nvidias site

The driver recovered. Any time I've seen speckled stuff like that on the screen it has been due to a hardware issue. RMA the card if you can.

Hmm, only reason I installed the drivers on the CD was because I tried downloading win7 64-bit drivers under the "500 series" on nvidia. When I tried running the drivers it said could not detect compatible hardware. Can someone confirm or point me to the latest drivers for the 560ti 448? Should use the same drivers as a 570 right?

Yeah, but at least try an update before RMA'ing. What's the harm in a little troubleshooting?

Update the drivers from NVIDIA's website and check that the card is running at the proper clocks and is properly cooled. On first glance, it looks like the vRAM on the card is borked and the card should be RMA'd, but always do everything you can on your side to double check before you go through that hassle.

My friend had the same problem, although his card was an oc version, fixed the problem by turning the clocks to stock.

I would see that kind of patterns when I used to overclock my 8800gt memory too high. So I agree, it could be a Vram issue.

Do new Nvidia cards implement the same Vram error correction as AMD cards? If so, then you shouldn't be seeing this as a result of memory problems, you'd just see reduced performance. If not, then the first thing I'd do is turn down the memory clock and see if that helps.

In all honesty, I just wouldn't trust the 560Ti-448. It's a frankenstein product introduced only to help nvidia get rid of defective silicon.

BF3 and nvidia (at least the 560 ti) go together like oil and water. BF3 has triangular and linear artifacts quite often. Try another demanding game. nvidia drivers have been nothing but trouble in bf3 at least the 560 ti has been. It got better with more recent drivers, at first you couldn't play 2 minutes now after an hour or 2 you may not even experience anything, but it still happened to me on the weekend.

BTW, the artifacts I've seen have been different, triangular radiating out from a point in different directions. It's unplayable at the worst.

I've seen pictures of what you're describing, and it looks more like a rendering error. What he's shown above looks like it could potentially be a hardware error.

Therefore, in addition to experimenting with whichever drivers support the 560Ti-448, he should try underclocking the memory.

When I run SETI@home on both GPU's on my 295 I get crazy artifacts on my screen until I reboot. I assume it's a driver issue. Now having a decent video card I realize how piss poor NVIDIA's drivers are.

And people complain that AMD have bad drivers

Take a look at the BF3 forums, there are tons of threads about people with factory overclocked or stock 560ti cards and artifacts in BF3. Most solve the issue by lowering clocks to stock or giving the card more voltage - alternately you can RMA.

Funny how that works on that model.

I got a 2gb non ti model i got the core at 950 core,2350 memory on stock voltages and i haven't had a single issue yet.

Is it only happening with the ti model or just luck of the draw depending on gpu?
