Today at my school Bank Of America is offering a checking account that is free for 5 years. No monthly maintenence fees, no minumum balance requirements, free online bill pay, and a bunch of other things. I currently have a savings account, but its time for me to get a checking account also. Im just wondering if Bank Of America is a good bank or not. Anyone have good/bad expieriences with them? Ill probably be using paypal with the account, Im not sure if that matters or not. any input is appreciated.

The name is wrong. It is really Bank of India.

BofA has been great so far. Free checking + Online Bill pay = good.
I used to have Wells Fargo and they blew goat sperm.

People still don't have free checking?? I would think theres tons of banks out there that don't charge for checking...why you would go for one with fees is beyond me. Personally I'd look for a local credit union....usually their rates and service are much better than any of the national banks in the area.

The good thing is they're everywhere. I haven't had a problem with them but I can see them being nasty to those that don't follow the rules.

BofA's online banking is very convenient (not to mention free). I've never had any problems with them, but I've also never overdrafted my account.

isn't checking free all the time, not just 5 years?

for students it's free i think, if you're parent has an account or something like that. it's also free if you have direct deposit. otherwise, I think it's like $5/mo or something. I have this and a local bank (which has real free checking accounts).

it says in the fine print on the flyer they gave me that its free for 5 years. Ill see how it goes, im not even sure if I will keep that account for that long.

A friend of my father's did statistics for them. This guy is really cool, absolutely loaded, nice house in Ponte Vedra, fl and another in Oregan, but he drives an old van, which he'll drive down to the keys and live in for a month, every once in a while. Well, he hated those executives, and got out very quickly.

He has this one story about them; the executives would sit in a conference room, listen to recordings of pathetic and irate customer service calls, and make fun of them. People who had overdrawn their account, or couldn't get their money (BoA's fault or not), people screwed over, and the executives would laugh at them. There's no way in hell I would bank with them.

oh btw: I heard Bofa staffs have like the least working satisfaction compare to other bank workers. they get like no hoilday perks and no company party at all. Heard it on LA radio.

which is weird, because I recieve great customer service in a branch or on the phone.

...have been using them since last October. They are pretty good, but don't ever go for their credit card. The slam the late fees on the day your payment is due, unlike most other places that wait for 2-3 days with the assumption that your check is post-marked by the due date (I think). They charged me late fees 3 months in a row, even though my Checking Account had three times as much as the total capacity of my credit card. I missed it each time because I had setup their paperless statement thing but didn't realize that I needed to go in a check another option that would send me an email notification when the statement was ready The first time I called Customer Service, they waived 50% of the late fee (late fee is $39 :| ), but they pretty much told me to take a hike when I called back the second time (1 day after my bill was due). But their online billing is by far the most convenient I have used so far. I have this weird superstition about lucky bank accounts and this one has been lucky for me, so far, in that I always have a decent running balance in it I guess that's the main reason I still stick with them...

BoA will do things like announce a "free checking account". While this may technically be true, the CHECKS you use are definately NOT free.

You people are all too darn picky. Tell me of another bank which has ATM's practically everywhere in the entire country and has free online bill pay plus the ability to transfer money to other BofA customers instantly for free.
