Alright, since we're all just taking shots in the dark...

GAMING: +10% (of course, only at resolutions lower than anyone would play at)
GENERAL SYSTEM PERFORMANCE: +20%
ENCODING/MEDIA: +5%
ENCRYPTION: +20%
RENDERING: +10%

All figures approximate, and based on clock-for-clock.

GAMING: -20% in non-GPU limited situations
GENERAL SYSTEM PERFORMANCE: -10%
ENCODING/MEDIA: -20%-+5% depending on the app
ENCRYPTION: +20%
RENDERING: -10%

I don't have a prediction.

If I were to speculate, I think Barcelona will be slower to start, but may end up being faster.

IPC may be higher, but AMD has a hard time with Mfg. Clock speeds will be much slower. Once AMD gets the speeds up, then Barc will probably be faster.
do you mean slower clock/clock or slower overall? I don't think that even the most rabid amd fanboy thinks that barcelona at intro will beat a Q6850, much less a Q6950.

You've never met OCHungry!! hehe.

He might as well be AMDHungry

where is that guy lately?

Who? Me?

I don't really care who has a faster processor. I just want fierce competition to resume again. Competition is good for all of us as consumers.

well, it's less than 24 hrs to go. For all who've given their 2cents worth on how barcelona will compare with C2D clock for clock, we'll soon find out who got it right....for those who haven't tried yet, there's still time.

let's hope to great competition again for the benefit of us consumers and innovation.

honestly, I only care about gaming performance

- Gaming performance is much improved with Barcelona over K8, this is most likely a result of the improvements to the SSE engine and the wider front end of the core.

my impression was, well, better but not enough..

This thread turned out fairly good. We have a few that got pretty close . But still won't have the right information till we see Penryn reviews on a seaburg platform . I feel bad for the people that were looking for a performance increase over C2D . It was unreasonable to expect that kind of performance increase. K8 was already good.
I sure hope people didn't buy stock in the hopes of making $$$ anytime soon on AMD stocks.

And we still don't have the right information for Agena either (remember that going to HT3 also means a new core revision), and that's in 2 months as well...

I did indeed buy AMD stock, and strangely enough I have ALWAYS made money on them.
It looks to me like I will be doing so again (for example Nollenberger started at a buy on AMD when Barcelona data came out).

Viditor you know as well as many others that on the DT HT3 isn't going to do anything for performance. Or you should know this.

You are always going to get people who give bad investment advice because of 1 reason or another . Usually its self interest. You seem like an honest type. You wouldn't want to be 1of these types. Would ya. Wait for the 3rd. qt results .

This is NO reflection on you. But I can't wait till the end of 4th qt. results. I even bought some AMD stock to set this up. Not a lot 500shares. I still own my Puts.

But if AMD doesn't make $$$ in the fourth QT. AS hector said they would , That will mean over 1 year of complete lies from AMD. This info was put out by AMD to stablize stock prices. If AMD fails to make $$$$. I will start a class action suite against AMD based upon those lies . I have kept accurate record of everthing AMD has said about K10 and links . It will be hard but the lies that AMD has put out since last fall has swindle 1000's out of 1,000,000's of $$$$$. I want to see these people recovery their $$$$.

Mine were sorely off the mark. I really thought K10 would be lower power and slightly better IPC.

Both expectations were proved unfounded today.

What a crap product release. If K10 isn't AMD's prescott (from market/industry/profits/expectation sense) then I don't know what would be, maybe K10 is AMD's new K5.

Yeah, now who still wants to believe that Henri Richard's departure from AMD had nothing to do with K10...

Well, it is not a bad product in deed. Clock to clock it is slower but it shrinks the gap between K8 and C2.

But the concern is the cost, not to us, but to AMD. Given AMD's reputation on yield, their immatured 65nm process, large mono-die 280mm^2 die size (which lead to tripple core CPU sku), AMD would NOT make money.

Actually, if Intel want to beat AMD, it can simply lower the Q6600 price to $199. Phenom could not compete if it prices higher than $179.

Don't forget that with superb 45nm process ready and 100mm^2 x2 die size, Intel can easily release 4GB quad-core processor at low price. Intel just does not need to do it.

Prediction : 5% average IPC advantage, but irrelevant due to low clock speeds. No more AMD in 12 months.

I was off. -5% instead of +5%

I was right about saying the launch was going to be a mistake and a excuse to sell something before the holiday and more importantly for business contracts and IT budgets get set for next year.

I don't know how other companies work, but mine for instance, is a long progress of going through contractual agreements, lawyers, accountants, and cost center budgeting.

Our IT department would have to get approval months in advance for funds for any major upgrade or system reconfiguration. Something normally done before the end of year as deparment budgets are decided on how much we spent the previous year.
