Can you play BF2 on a LAN co-op? With a patch or the expansion pack? I'm boycotting most games which do not allow for co-op play over a LAN. Especially FPS'.

Thanks,

Bud

kind of, but with only 8 per team...

....with "bots" in the mix? Playing 2 on 2 (or even 1 on 1) is a lot of fun as long as there are bots to help out (or more like "get in the way" That's what makes BF1942 and BF Vietnam so MUCH FUN!

basically you start a single player game and then have all the ports forwarded to your computer, then other people can join in, but your machine is the server in addition to playing the game. the bots are pretty smart in bf2, too bad that didn't make it like 1942 where you could run a dedicated server with 50+ bots and 10-12 of your peeps.

I guess I need to do some homework and find out how to "forward the ports" to me PC. Does this also work with COD2?

Thanks,

Bud

just type into google - bf2 server ports

I think Return to Castle Wolfenstein is much more fun to play online than Battlefield 2. I love RTCW so much that I had to uninstall it so I wouldn't play it so much. Speaking of which, I'm off to download the latest patch of BF2 and play a round or two.

You don't need to do that forward port stuff.

What you do is host a multiplayer game, have your friend(s) select it in the list but not join, then you exit out and start a singleplayer game with bots, your friends then join the game that is still on their list and presto! MP with Bots.

i agree. im just not into war type games. they are all pretty boring. some are sort of addicting, but they are boring, and when im done playing it feels like a wasted time doing nothing.

Do you think the above would also work with COD2, FEAR, Far Cry? Or are those different beasts when it comes to MP with Bots?

I didn't buy BF2 yet because I thought MP with Bots was not an option. Thank you very much for the information

Thanks again!

Bud

/shrug. Depends on whether you like that kind of combat game. I think it's probably one of the best team-oriented first person combat games ever.

i don't think those games come with bots by default. there may be a mod that adds them though.

I'm confused...I always thought bots was short for "robots" as in....AI controlled enemy characters? And of course COD2, FEAR and Far Cry all have AI controlled enemies.

Bots are replacements for real people in a multi-player game.

COD2, Far Cry and FEAR (I believe) all offer MP with human opponents AND they all feature single player campaigns. So are the "enemy AI units" considered Bots in these games or not? How can I tell if a game features "bots" or simply just Enemy AI controlled units?

They are only considered "bots", i believe, if they are replacing absent human players in a MP game. So no, enemy units in single player campaign wouldn't be considered bots.
