Battlefield 2042 - official thread

I finally got a 1440p monitor and it is g-sync or g-sync compatible. How do I know it's working in 2042? In the Nvidia control panel display - set up g-sync is enabled for full screen. In 3d settings Global settings - Manage 3d settings - Monitor technology is set to g-sync compatible. Vsync is off. Program settings - BF2042 - Monitor technology says Use global setting (g-sync compatible). Vsync is off. There was a setting along the top to display when g-sync was working but that setting is now gone.

Edit: Nevermind. I see the little green g-sync indicator in the top right corner. It must have been covered up by the nvidia overlay. Doh!

I feel like an a-hole for saying this.
The above is the sole reason I didn’t buy the game. Too much bs to log into it and I had to use a different account name from my steam name.

Well you saved yourself some money. If you want to get the game though when I launch through Steam, it runs an Origin thin client and doesn't require me to login each time. It takes longer to launch though since it needs to go through the extra step.

You could have months back when people were requesting them but if you have played more than 2hrs or so I don't think you can get it now unless you recently purchased. Might as well email them and complain, some people have had success.

Well it's now almost impossible to win a game playing solo with beginner bots for me. Before the last 2 updates it was a toss up. Not only that they keep nerfing the fun things in the game that helps folks like me who play casually and want to have fun. They've also removed 128 player breakthrough although they could have easily left it in and let those complaining play on a 64 player server. I just don't get why people are so determined to remove options from games that let others play they way they want to play.

Kind of understandable why they killed the 128 player map if they couldn’t reliably fill it but it is also a huge bummer. I was hoping 2042 would finally nudge shooters into bigger maps instead of smaller COD maps.

Makes sense why the 128 player maps were taken out. It took forever to get anywhere in the beginning and also the map design in general was very bad. Lots of open empty space with no destructible pieces of the environment around to at least make it interesting.

So the new update fixed my single player/coop issues but now the maps are gone. The only maps I can play in any game mode in solo/coop are Random and Exposure. The other maps are gone after update but the previous two prior nights they were there. Not tonight though and I wanted to hop in and warm up on kaleidoscope before playing another map or two. <Sighs>

Edit: I think I may have found a workaround. I think going into the options menu and clicking between the various option sections and going back to the maps makes them show up. Either that or something isn't communicating fast enough for the maps to show up on time.

Season 3 started. Games has improved a lot. If they had released it like this, things might have been different.

This game is a lot better now. I can't believe the dumb fuckers that got paid a shit ton of money to release it how it was. Even though I found it fun because I do love the BF style of multiplayer over the more twitchy and super fast TTK of COD, it was too mediocre to play for too long. Just the overall feel and gunplay of BF games are so much better to me.

Haven't played since late last year/early this year. Just started playing this week again. JackFrags is hyping it up and Shroud said 2042 is better than the new COD so hopefully people come back to it. I'm not having any issues finding lots of matches.

Yeah this feels like putting on a favorite pair of jeans now. Nothing beats being on a battlefield in a battlefield game that's good. And that's what we have now. Unfortunately there is no team deathmatch but breakthrough rush and conquest are fun.

Yea I'd be interested if voice chat worked. That was the whole point of battlefield in the past.

I've played lots of Apex legends and getting people with mikes that use them on there is a grind and a small percentage. Or they have mics but are in parties with friends so never in game chat

Probably just more of the same here.

BF2042 is part of GamePass now so that's getting more new players into the game.
Voice chat does work but not many use it. Squad play isn't as rewarded and there seems to be less of it.

Oh good. The more the merrier. They should really make it free to play but game pass is good for now.

I did end up finding a couple people with mics in my squad last night. I only do squad chat but not full team chat.

TDM is actually live today for a limited time. I guess they rotate it in sometimes, which is better than nothing.

My new Audeze Penrose wireless headset came in today and it's finally one worth keeping. Last year I tried a Steelseries, Corsair, HyperX and one other and they were all mediocre. The Audeze finally satisfies. They are planar headphones so the bass is great but definitely not overpowering, you can still hear the details you need for location awareness. And they are actually loud, all the others were too quiet, and didn't have enough range. This one solves all those issues.

Devs said they are bringing back some maps from the older BF's, first one will be from BF4. Also the next big update will bring one last recon specialist into the fold, and everything will be changed to classes. No more specialists after that.

Next big patch this season will bring back classes that each specialist will fit into, and so most gadgets will be restricted by class as they used to be.

Played a lot this weekend as two social events got cancelled. Really fun, that old pair of jeans is still rocking.

Searched for groups to play with via the Xbox in a squad. Managed to find one group with solid good teamwork all with mics. That is the way the game is meant to be played. With that squad we just crushed it.

I never brought up politics but those guys did. All rabid Trump humpers lol

I think some were really loving the military simulation part of it from their talking. It was like cosplay to them. Even though it's not a sim at all. Too funny.

Cool! Definitely give it another go. A lot of people online that did not like it at launch have gotten back on and are enjoying the game; I joined the 2042 subreddit and it's got a lot of positive feedback posts, acknowledging the game is fun now and still acknowledging some issues. Still needs work, especially the matchmaking system - for example you might be on defense 2-3x in a row on Breakthrough instead of rotating. Also when you finish a match and stay on to play the next one, you are never in the same squad, if it is with randoms. If you are in a party of course your squad stays the same. There are definitely plenty of battlefield moments happening, I've had quite a few already.

patch 3.2 will be the next one reverting to a class system

Season 3 does make it a lot better. Should have been like this to start. Really enjoying it now.

BTW, my 5 year old getting a few kills actually. Ruining my stats but whatever. Teaching him the right way... ESDF and inverted.
