Well, I did it. I watched BE on HBO this weekend just to see if it was as bad as everyone said. It was.

Had very few redeeming qualities I could find. No special effects of note, savages flying Harriers, John Travoltas voice and exploding worlds with a hand held device. Hee Hee

Did like Forest Whitaker though and the Psyclos appearance but brought Klingons to mind and the WWF wrestler, The Undertaker.

Hear the book is much better. Worth reading, anybody?

The book is pretty long, but a good read. I wished the book was a little less happy/uplifting. The book could be so much better if it was a little more believable, having Johnny be less perfect and Jesus like.

This is one of those tragically terrible, stupifyingly bad movies that simply must be seen to be believed.

Call some of your buddies, pick up some brews, pop this movie in and let the hillarity begin!

The biggest problem with the movie is that it's not even good enough to be a bad movie. At least you can make fun of bad science fiction.

The book is worse. I actually bought the damn thing. Fortunately for me, I couldn't get passed the 8th page before throwing it across my room pissed that I spent money on it.

1967mustangman read it (I made him when he came over), and he didn't even get that far before throwing it across my room too.

I watched about the first 30 mins of the movie... and turned it off. I'll sit down and watch the entire thing agin, but I heard it just gets worse and worse...

I knew a guy a couple years ago that was totally obsessed with the book and looking forward to the movie, he never told me how dissapointed he was. But he read the book like ten times, he loved it.

This is true. I was talking to someone who was about to watch it this weekend, and I kept telling them it was bad. They asked why, and I couldn't come up with a reason they'd understand. I finally said &quot;Just watch it once, but no more then that. Cause then it kills brain cells faster then blows to the head&quot;

Also take a look at the movie called the &quot;The Story of Ricki&quot; This is a really bad movie in terms of plot and special effects but it is the funniest movie I've ever seen.

L. Ron Hubbard, the author of the book, started out writing science fiction and then went into Scientology. In the meantime, science fiction stories had become much different than they were in the 40s and 50s. Ron reportedly wanted to do an old fashioned science fiction book. I picked up a copy and enjoyed it. It is what it is and if you like stories about how one man can singlehandedly best a whole (evil) alien race, you'll love this. I would characterize the book as juvenile. I'd say 14 - 16 is about the age it would appeal to although it appealed to me when I was much older.

Legend has it Hubbard made a bet with Robert Heinlein as to which would make a man wealthier faster - writing, or religion.

Good thing Hubbard chose religion because his writing is probably the worst prose to ever be produced by an actual publisher.

I'm sure those movies are real stinkers, and a lot worse than BE. But I think what makes BE so horrible is money was actually spent to make it. and if you want to see a really bad movie, try to pick up a copy of &quot;Dead Mate.&quot; I've seen a lot of stinkers, but DEad Mate takes the cake.

This movie has earned such a bad rep that I am almost tempted to see it.

But then I remember that I have sworn to myself that I will avoid anything by L. Ron Hubbard at all costs.

I am not religious and I dont believe in the devil, but if I am wrong and there is one, then L. Ron Hubbard is his right hand man.

Bad Taste a bad movie? I beg to disagree. Sure, it's made with thin budget (REALLY thin budget), but it's good . Low Budget does not mean that it's bad movie. Just look at ID4! Huge budget, but it's still one of the worst movies ever made!

Here's an interesting piece of news: The guy who directed Bad Taste (Peter Jackson. The guy with the hole in his head), is now directing Lord of the Rings.
