I bought the Linksys 4 port KVM, the regular blue one, not the proconnect. Just make sure you have good cables. Other than that it works great for me. I've been using it with my test lab for a couple months now.
I have a linksys and a belkin. Both work fine except that I've found out the higher the resolution the more ghosting you get. I've bought the best video cables money can buy but still the same problem. If you like high resolution you might be disappointed. I run mine at 1152 x 864. Refresh and color depth don't seem to matter. Both units advertise up 1280 x 1024. They'll go higher but it gets pretty bad.
Take a look at Cybex. They make good kvms. I've tried different brands, but like the cybex best. I can play FPS games on them without a problem (would cause a problem w/other KVMs) and slight ghosting at 1280x1024 (still better than the others though).
Anandtech members Dharmabum and Soulfly used to have good deals on cybex switches. PM them and maybe they can hook you up.
Does any company make just a KM (as opposed to KVM). I'd buy one in an instant since my monitor can already handle two CPUs. Dropping the video part should save money and of course there are no ghosting problems. So do these exist?
I got 2 tripp-lite from pc connection. My monitors run at 1600x1200 and 1260x1024. Not a hitch. I almost chose the cybex and the belkin (both excellent reputations), but I did not want to push the max res of those two (16600x1200). Be careful if you play a lot of games that the keys for switching monitors are not used.
Most KVM switchs use short cut keys to switch between the devices. I'd heard that some of the linksys switches use the shift keys in some combinations that is in common with the keyboard control of certain games. So when you play the games and use those keys, you will also trigger the KVM to switch components.
To switch between computers using a kvm you enter a key sequence like ctrl-ctrl-a to switch to computer a. In your games if you map the ctrl key to something, you might switch computers if you accidentally hit the correct key sequence.
The Cybex uses ctrl-ctrl-x to change computers. It doesn't bother me for FPS games cause I don't map the ctrl key to anything.

Dullard, I'm looking for the same switch to go with the Sony G520. Thought the Radio Shack.com store might carry them but no luck. Thinking about biting it and go for the Omnicube or the IO Gear MINIVIEW PORT and leaving the video vacant...
