The drives are similar except that the DW-1655 has additional LightScribe-related hardware. They scan and burn identically, so make your decision based on the LightScribe functionality.

I know, does that make a huge difference is what I am wondering.

Oh... here's my own experience with LightScribe, then.

1. It looks fantastic.
2. It takes almost half an hour to do a single "label."
3. LS media's kind of expensive, and you don't have too many choices when it comes to manufacturers.

I've done maybe 5 LS burns in my life... it looks nice, but it takes too damn long.
