The data server process is not running
Right now the data server machine is up, but the process that actually serves the data is not running. This is probably because we're in the middle of upgrading the server software, or preparing for a quick reboot. These outages are usually brief (10-15 minutes). Please try back again soon.

I still cant connect and It's been over an hour!

Everything on dhs.org or 2y.net was down all day thanks to a goof-up at DHS. It's been fixed now.

Berkelay has been having intermittant problems all day as well, as they upgrade their data distribution server. Should be reliable by tomorrow.

I am glad that I installed Seti Q last night. At least that will keep me filled till they get it fixed. Hopefully within the next couple days. I HOPE!!!!!

I had a bunch or results queued from around 5:30 PM EST, they started going in at 2:21 AM. Now a few new ones are stuck.

One of the problems with Berkeley was that they were being DoSed by some jerks who managed to automate the creation of tens of thousands of bogus new user accounts, which bogged down the system.. :| See this from SETI Admins. There are a number of messages over on the SETI boards discussing this...

I have a feeling that fallout from the cheating scandal will continue to generate more direct attacks on the SETI infrastructure...

Steps may very well be taking place to find out the losers carrying out these DOS attacks can be found out and possibly prosecuted not just as an attack on the SETI infrastructure but under the CyberSecurity act of National Cyber Security which would make these losers liable under Federal prosecution.

Dave - the sad thing is that I doubt very much that any of these attacks are originating from U.S. citizens. Therefore barring the mention of cyber security and/or extradition in any treaties between the U.S. and say the Netherlands or Germany, where quite a few of the cheat accounts came from, then there is nothing that can be done. The last big cheating scandal in Jan. 2000 involved individuals from Sweden and the Netherlands I believe, and as far as I know, nothing could be done prosecution-wise in the U.S. Whether those countries took it upon themselves to take action, I personally don't know. Supposedly one of the individuals worked for or was rumored to have worked for Dell in Sweden at that time.

From a very aged article on the subject recalled from my memory the base amount of money the government is a big downfall to carry out an investigation and prosecuition.
A small company that may have lost $5,000 would take up $40,000 in the effert to see justice. (The figure of $40,000 may be inaccurate and much higher.)

Yes, quite correct, but fortunately some countries have orginizations that can quietly step in and resolve these matters - we happen to call ours the CIA.
