Best 18in+ LCD for Gaming????

What's the current best LCD for FPS gaming??? I go to a LAN event every 6 weeks - Kansas City Beatdown - and I hate lugging my 21" Sony Behemoth - it weighs like 90lbs. I play alot of FPS games - Quake 3/etc,.. - so I'm concerned about image blurring also. I'd also like a black option to match my Lian-Li black case. Cost should be under $1500 (or I can't afford it!!!)
What's the best one available now????

I believe the Planar LCD is what you're looking for.

How much is it?? I don't know. I heard that it's the best LCD for gaming and DVD.

Any other suggestions???
Looking for users who actually have 18in or bigger LCD's (like the Viewsonic VG191 or Dell 2000FP) and use them for gaming, and either love/hate 'em.....
Tell me your experiences!

New LCD's with Feed Forward technology are slated to come out this February and should cost no more than current LCD's. Apparently they have 1/10'th the latency of current LCD's pixels and should be much better for gaming. I would not buy one now, or you will kick yourself in a month.

I dunno the model number, it's just their 18.1" model. 1280x1024.

Link?? Or should we just take your word for it?:Q

And if you think that there won't be a premium for new technology, you are sorely mistaken. Especially given the current state of the LCD market.

Not one dead pixel!

I have no problems at all with ghosting/blurring

Check out flat lcd's at toms hardware.com

Response time for the 17'' Solarism is 20+ 20 which is 40! Not good!

You have to add them up.

If you read Tom's article, I wouldn't bother with a flat panel.

Conclusion:

"As we mentioned in the preceding pages, LCD monitors still can't hold a candle to CRTs in terms of quality. Granted, their geometry is flawless, they shrug off magnetic fields and they are astonishingly compact. However, their response times and their effective color range are just too limited. Graphic artists shouldn't even consider picking up one of these gadgets, since they would only risk disappointment...

Gamers, on the other hand, should stick to their tried-and-true CRT. The afterglow on TFTs lingers too long for most gaming. The best thing to do is just to wait until the response time has been reduced even further."

I've personally used a few Samsung models, Viewsonics and a Sony M81 flat panel, and I wouldn't use them for anything but office applications. When reading text, the picture is very stable and pleasant to look at, but as soon as any motion starts occuring, be it something as simple as scrolling a document, and the picture loses all its strengths. Movies looked bad on them, the colors are terribly washed out and motion within the movie has a "digital" feel to it. I don't game on them, so I won't comment on that, but I'm sure the colors are just as washed out, and I doubt the motion blurring is any better. One other thing is all panels look like garbage if they are not run at their native resolution or a multiple of it. None of these downsides hurt its use for office apps, but I can't see spending $800-1500 for such a one dimensional product. Flat panels are probably the future, but they aren't there yet.

About a $1000 on PriceGrabber but I'm sure if you check Hot Deal you can find it cheaper.

You can get one at Dell for $899.00. You can even get a better price at Dell if you wait for one of their sales that they have every 2 weeks or so. It's uaully like 5% - 15% off.

Feed Forward

Supposedly it only involves a minor modification in the circuitry so it won't incur any additional production/manufacturing costs. Whether or not they actually charge more for it is a different matter entirely.

Anymore suggestions/comments??? I'm also in the market for an 18in+ GAMING LCD.
I too am sick of dragging my HUGE/HEAVY monitor to LAN events - i've pulled my back-out twice and I'm afraid that
I'm going to drop the sucker eventually...

So it's the Viewsonic VG191 or the Planar 18.1 for gaming then????

I just got a Viewsonic VG191b beautiful display bright clear it will blow your mind but I am an avid multiplayer its currently running on a geforce3 ino3d VGA out not good, alot of pixel ghosting. I ordered the GainwardTi550 just for the DVI it should be here today or monday I will post the result. If you go LCD the viewsonic would be a great choice alot less money than planar and the difference will be minimal and you'll be out another $800 bucks with planar. KEEP THIS iN MIND dont even dream of using an LCD without DVI!!!!!! buy, beg, or borrow a new video card with DVI support.
