Best 2.1 Speaker Setup?

I currently have the Altec Lansing ATP3 setup and have had it for years now. The sound somtimes fades out and I have to kick the sub to get it back to normal, lol. I decided against a 5.1 setup as I listen to music about 75% of the time.

Anyways, are there any current 2.1 setups that will blow me away after having this Altec Lansing setup or should I stick with it?

I think I'm gonna stay away from logitech, their sattelites are lacking from what I've read.

Klipsch also has several great 2.1 systems. Any Creative system made by Cambridge Soundworks is good too. They have several 2.1 systems.
Just remember, if you want to be blown away then you need to make sure its a "THX Certified" system. And you wont be picking it up for 29.95 either. You should be ready to spend at least $100.

I've been searching newegg up to the $200 range. Looks like the Klipsch 2.1s are the top rated set there and are THX certified. I will probably go with those over the Logitech but will keep reading. Thanks for the input.

You might also want to look into the Altec Lansing MX-5021. It's gotten some great reviews and many people prefer them over the Klipsch 2.1 for music. There seems to be a very loyal following over at hardforums.

Thanks for the reccomendation. These speakers are also reviewed well, just not as many reviews, which makes sense because I usually hear hype about Klipsch. I love the Antecs I have now so it makes sense to step up to an even better set. Thanks for pointing these ones out!!!

It depends. Klipsch's have such high fidelity that they reveal imperfections in recordings. Like I actually picked up a cut in the soundtrack in a movie when a scene started changing. Likewise on music you can hear how much money they really put into those recording sessions. An indie album will sound more muddy and bassy compared to say the latest Hilary Duff CD. It sounds like that because they needed to save money and also punk rock is listened to often in a car or on vinyl and not the expensive shelf system that daddy bought you. But tweak down the bass and everythings cool. Needless to say Klipsch's are great for DVD's and great for anything you'd want to have audio for. The only things I've heard are lacking are country or any acoustic based guitar music and rap/techno.

Check audio review sites regarding Bose products before buying. I recommend Klipsch 2.1 if you are willing to spend $250 for a set of speakers.

I dunno about bose. It's a matter of taste but although I like the depth, the sound of those is too cold and clinical to me. Klipsch is just more dynamic exciting and rough around the edges. I'm not sure which bose you are talking about, but in general they aren't worth what you could get for less money or more money for that matter.

What Bose speakers are you talking about? I don't think I know of any Bose system that would go for $250. In general, Bose is extremely bad for the money sound quality wise. Check out this review... http://www.intellexual.net/bose.html

CRXican, I don't think you would go wrong with either the MX-5021 or the Klipsch 2.1s.

Not to be compared to Bose venue speakers or the ones you could buy in the 70's, their speakers today are pricey because they are designed to be small and inconspicous. Not accusing anyone of being a yuppie, but they are popular with yuppies who will pay for anything that's not a black box. It certainly didn't go into the speaker durability since they are made of paper.

Just ordered the Altec Lansing MX-5021 from www.newegg.com

Avoided the Klipsch hype and went for the underdogs. The Altec Lansing legacy continues.

Update: The MX5021s arrived and they kick ass. The bass is definietly adequate and the satellites sound great and these things get loud. I hear more detailed sound when playing far cry and movies are great too.
