Best $200 Headphones

In the $200 price range, what headphones do people suggest?

They will be used for music, movies, and gaming.

As much as I love the HD595's, my vote has to go to the Denon D2000 (although MSRP is $349, they can be found for around $200)

Take the sweetness of the 595, close up the backs, and add gobs of deep heart pumping bass. Not to mention they feel like pillows on your ears, you would have to pry them from my cold dead hands....

In all seriousness, I use them about 3-8 hours a day and could NOT be happier. I've tried MANY headphones over the years and these are the best under $200 i've ever heard. My collection included; Denon D2000 ? Sennheiser CX300 Sennheiser ? Audio Technica ATH-ESW9 ? Audio Technica ATH-ES7 ? Klipsch Image X10 ? Beyerdynamic DT770 ? Sennheiser HD580 ? Sennheiser HD595 ? AKG K81 DJ ? Westone UM2 ? Shure E500 ? V-Moda Vibes ? Jays Q-Jays ? Sennheiser PX100

I second the D2000 recommendation. I've tried a similar variety, also including Audio-Technica ATH-A900s, and while I really like them as well, I prefer the D2000s bass (is more visceral) and earpads. Also, there's quite a bit of opportunities for aftermarket modification if you so desire (everything from simple cheap stuff you can do yourself to wood cups and high end recabling). Comfort is only second to really high end headphones with a little bit nicer earpads. They do well unamplified (straight out of say your iPod or computer), but will benefit from an amp as well if you want to check that out. They'll excel at all three (you'll really enjoy the bass in games and movies and they're great for music as well).

OP, in addition, the Grado SR 225 may suit your fancy. At the 40$ range, I'd add in the Koss Portapro which competes against the Senn. PX100. Both have a little extra bass centered around 100hz, they have similar midrange and high frequency.

Where would you recommend buying the D2000 for $200 (online reputable dealer)? I can't find anyplace that has it in stock for near that price.

they have them out of stock at buy.com right now, but for 200 bucks. id just add them to the cart and buy them to lock in the price and wait for them to come back in.

I actually own an amplifier for my monitors, but when I looked up the output specs for the headphone jack, it says "accepts low and high impedence headphones". Should I take this to mean it does not amplify the sound (either much, or at all)?

Yeah. Might also consider the Little Dot I+, its a hybrid amp that's biased towards low impedance headphones.

They are semi open however.
