Alright I know that I'm going to get several answers to this, but I do what to know what everybody thinks. I'm in need of updating my FX5700, but I'm not sure of what to go with. I do understand that I may have to upgrade my psu also, so that is no big deal. So lay it out there guys/gals what should I go with? Thank you for help

Hey, I actually have the same question. It hasn't been asked for a few months insofar as I can see, and I want to buy the best AGP card possible this week or next.

Also, what are you going to do with your new video card? Are you a gamer? If so, what games are you looking to play? Give us some information so we can give you a more informed response.

What is your budget?

We hashed this one out pretty well already. Several times actually. See this link...

In the thread I linked you to, I don't believe I mentioned the X1950GT. This is the best "value" card ($139.00) in my opinion and there is a good chance it can be overclocked to Pro speeds. This card is basically a underclocked X1950 Pro and has all the same features.

See the link I posted above. Nothing has really changed aside from the 2600 Pro being released, and that is definitely not a card you want for gaming.

I bought 7600 GT for $160 AUD and sold my 6600 GT for $90 AUD so total cost was only $70 - really gave some life to my older system.

Unless you OC that CPU a few hundred mhz don't go past a 7600GT. Stay away from the HD26xx series as they consume more power than the 7600GT with lower performance. An X1950 card would be CPU limited to an extent with your P4 but a 7600GT would be a very nice fit.

Isn't DX10 only available in Vista? So buying a DX10 card with a system only capable of running XP would be kind of redundant? Correct me if I'm wrong as I'd rather know if I was then continue my false prophecies.

oh yeah good point, so unless you upgrade to Vista wouldn't be worth it although I'm assuming they'll be a bit faster to than the current AGP cards. What about your system won't work with Vista though?

j0j081 , Stop offering people advice on video cards as it's becomign painfully clear you have no clue what you're talking about, every post in this video forum has been you preaching about the DX10 cards coming out from Nvidia, you've offered no insight or reasons people should buy them, when I can say why they shouldn't.

Don't buy the new AGP DX10 cards coming out because prformance wise they suck for what you pay. They are too slow to play DX10 games on, unless Nvidia makes the 8600GTS for AGP thier performance sux for Dx9 gaming and even then the 8600GTS AGP card would be in the $150 + range where the AGP X1950 Pro for $150 would crush it. True even I've come to admit the 8600GTS has superrior immage uality to the X1950 Pro at lower resolutions under the same situations as the X1950's but when you crank up the res and AA levels, the 8600GTS trails away to a distant last place.

If you want the best AGP card under $100, get a 7600GS, at the $100 price point the 7600GT, in the $100 - $125 price point the X1950GT, $125 - $150 the X1950 Pro.

Let's not attack other members... lets stick to the topic, shall we?

Anyways. For what it's worth, I got my 7600GS 512 mb for $124 at Circuit City about 3 weeks ago and I'm very happy with it. My 450 watt power supply was handling it just fine, however I can't currently comment due to a bad motherboard. The motherboard has been going bad for quite some time - it has nothing to do with the new video card.

For example, Team Fortress 2 runs at decent settings at a very smooth framerate for me on my 20 inch widescreen LCD (1680x1050). While it's not the fastest thing out there, the 7600GS is definitely a great AGP solution to hold you off until the "next gen" direct x 10 cards, which is what I'm doing. You should be able to play every game out there as long as you have the proper CPU power and enough memory. Sure, it won't be at max settings, but it's at least enough to ENJOY every game out there.

The 7600GT would be an even better solution. I might return my 7600GS and go with a GT.

Hope this helps. Feel free to ask questions

Martianmisfit I recommend a 1950xt agp for you since your psu and cpu will be more than enough to push the card.

JonnyBlaze in your case your cpu is a little weak for anything more than a 1950 pro. If you use very high resolutions(above 1600x1200) get a 512mb version.
