*Obligatory Windows Home Server reply*

Stand alone software, however, I'd have to go with True Image. JUST MAKE SURE TO TEST YOUR RAM! I had years worth of backups that were bad because I was using bad RAM, and I had no idea until I tried to use the backup. Wouldn't pull any data from it. Kept getting a specific error, and after researching that error, I tested my RAM. I had to toss every backup I had (tested before I killed it of course).

Another testimonial for Acronis. Been using it since version 5 - now at 12 or 2009. Don't say "ghost." That is Norton's program. Not as nimble as TrueImage.

Anyone have any idea's for a Linux version?

I once saw a server booting up that had a boot menu to boot directly to the backup program, believe it was Acronis but don't recall.

Sorry to hijack the thread!

I've used Terabyte IFW/IFD and Acronis TI10, both excellent solutions. The Acronis GUI makes it the superior app for anyone new to backup/restore apps.

Haven't used Ghost since 2003.

Currently using Paragon Hard Disk Manager 2009 Suite, which combines backup/restore capability with complete partition-management capabilities. Package includes bootable CD/DVD creation for both LINUX/DOS and WinPE boot environments.

You can't really go wrong with any of the apps from Terabyte, Acronis or Paragon.

Hope this helps!

Here's another vote for Acronis True Image.

I use a Windows Home Sever now but for standalone machines, Acronis is really the best out there.
