Hello ,

I want to install linux again ... before I had mandrake 8.0 beta something and I liked it very much... should I go with mandrake again , just download a newer version , or go with something else ?

Thanks.

Im currently running Mandrake 8.0 and its awesome. No problems at all. I downloaded it when
it was first release, and havent been disappointed. I've tried Caldera and Red Hat, and their installation doesnt compare to what mandrake offers. just my two cents

go with mandrake n00b when you feel it isn't a challenge anymore, move to slackware. if you're not looking for a challenge, stick with windows.

I really like the latest Suse release (7.2)..very slick, installation was easy, but allowed you to take an expert track at every turn, if you desired. Only the second distro to work with all of my hardware, including my Nvidia MX2 vid card, and my Yamaha sound card (the first to do that was Red Hat 7.1). It really does require you to download all 5 iso files, but I feel it was worth it.

Well this stinks..I downloaded the 5 iso's from my corporate server (Big Blue) and am not permitted to share. I went and searched around a bit, and it looks like what I have is the professional version, which can't be downloaded??? I don't understand that, unless Suse is looking for the $$$ like everyone else in this world. The only thing I could find on the various mirrors, was an evaluation ISO, or the ability to install from FTP, sans any comercial software included in the $$$ packages.

You can install from FTP via "ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/7.2"

I have never done that, so I am unsure of how well it works.
