Best board for celeron 1a

Could anyone tell me what is the best board for an upgrade using the celeron 1a. Also what boards to stay away from would be helpful as I don't mind learning from the mistakes of others. I will be putting PC133 ram in board as well.

What about the Asus TUV4X? My local comp store has them in stock for $130 canadian ( a little over 80 bucks american). Am looking to upgrade fairly cheap but do want a stable system.

I'd stll prefer the TUSL2-C.

Some people seem to have bad luck with VIA chipsets, and the Intel i815E does seem to offer the best performance, along with stability.

I use and have had good success with the Abit ST6 non-raid version. Others have had good experiences also.

The 3 that are popular are:
TUSL2
ABIT ST6
Gigabyte GA6OXET

They each have some ups and downs. The TUSL2 does not have 1/4 PCI dividers below 133 MHz FSB. This can be a very big problem depending on the CPU you are trying to overclock. The 1.0A will easily make it to 133+, so its not an issue. If you were trying a C1.2, it would not ne a good choice. The ST6 has the best PCI -> FSB speed control, The GA6OXET has the best Vcore range. It also has 1/5 and 1/6 PCI dividers.

For the 1.0A, any of the above should work well. For a 1.1 or 1.2, you have to be a little more careful.

Built a TUSL2-C system last week with a 1A ghz celeron - 1333mhz (133fsb) at *STOCK VOLTAGE WITH STOCK FAN* - booted first time - so painless! I was really happy, and really impressed with the chip.

I have experience with only one Celeron 1.0A and two Tualatin-capable motherboards. The MSI 694T Pro motherboard didn't seem to OC well. My Celeron is currently on an Abit VH6-T and does 1333 at default vcore with the retail-box HSF. This board is around $75 at Newegg. Yes, there is supposed to be a difference in performance between the VIA 694T chipset and the Intel 815EP-B chipset, but realistically what is the real-world difference (aside from synthetic memory benchmarks)? What are we talking about, 1%, 3%? The Abit board also has an ISA slot, perfect for one of my USR Courier modems.

Is this abit board likely to have any problems with my sb live value sound card?

The SB audio card usually works well with any of these motherboards. It's the Via chipset that has the problems.

I bought an Abit VH6T from Newegg for $73. Works perfectly and I've had no problems running my Celeron 1.1a at 1507.
I use a Sound Blaster Live and have had no problems with it. Good mainboard for an excellent price!
