I concur with Risk and Monopoly. Also:

Careers
Life
Bonkers
Trouble - I think I have this one sitting in a closet somewhere.

I have probably play 100 or more games of Settlers/Setters + Seafarers. With the Cities and Knights expansion I have only tried it once. 5 hours later we still hadn't finished the game. We gave up and never tried it since. Granted, we will learning as we went, but it seemed very detailed and time consuming.

Overall, I get very frustrated with the huge role the dice play in this game, whereas in Puerto Rico, there is no luck of the dice.

There is a catan deck which will perform the rolls for distribution, though i didnt like it much because it guarantees the exact curve... since there are no reshuffles.
There is only 1 2 & 1 12 in the deck, seeing as how those can be rolled mroe often, I like the dice.

I can't believe no one has mentioned Scattergories. I definitely recommend it for groups of people.

I have that game and enjoy it. The hardest thing is finding players for it.

Chess, Settlers of Catan, Risk are some really good strategy games.

However, when I'm not looking to use my brain too much I have to say I like Apples to Apples, Monopoly, Sorry, and a few others.

Ticket to Ride
Ra
Carcassonne
Bohnanza
San Juan
Settlers of Catan

Settlers of Catan.

I'm sad to see only 2 mentions of Settlers. My friends and I played Risk for awhile and gave Axis and Allies a shot. But we all fell in love with Settlers and started playing the expansions, like Cities and Knights, though I haven't tried Seafarers yet. A bit simpler than Risk, so the games don't take as long. Also, you feel more involved during other players' turns rather than sitting and waiting until it's your turn again.

Settlers + Seafarers + Cities & Knights. Excellent game. The 5-6 player expansion kinda kills it though. Best played with 4 players.
