Hi Everyone,

This is my first contribution here.

For those who are looking to buy Altec Lansing 621 pc speaker system,
Best Buy has it reduced $20 to $159.99 and there is also a $30 MIR.
If anyone knows how to make this a sweeter deal, please suggest.

Personally I have tested this system and I am very happy with what I hear.
There isn't a lot of reviews on this system out there, yet.
This system, to my opinion, is recommended mostly for music lovers. Music sounds distinctly clear and the bass is solid.
The sub-woofer is front firing so no need to worry whether the bass will comes out muffled as a result of being absorbed by carpetted floor.
And in addition Altec claims that the sub is non-directional and there isn't a need to place it in between speakers(I tried placing it below my PC system, it actually saves space)
To top this off, the speakers come in grey and silver combination. Very futuristic and attractive. Looks really nice on desktop=)

I would love to discuss or try to answer any further question regarding this system.
Although all my comments will probably be coming from the result of testing this system.
Thanks for reading..and keep up the posts *smile*

Sorry, I forgot the link...thanks SKORPIO, for linking it.

Blahsome, glad you ask, I happen to have tested Logitech before I tested Altec.
As I pointed out earlier, I mainly listen to music more than watching movies(as I have my home theater for that purpose).
In terms of delivering sound clarity and detail highs in acoustic, saxophone and vocal music, Altec is able to do this much better than Logitech. Logitech, although able to produce comparable clarity and detail, sounds a little dull.
Both systems definitely produce solid and non-distorted bass when playing techno/house music at high volume; with Logitech's bass sounds somewhat more powerful.
Then again, personally I prefer bass that sounds pleasing rather than heavy(although I don't really need to worry about neighbours since I live in a house).

I hope I answer your question. However, I strongly discourage anyone to buy speaker system base on reviews and recommendations.
Your ear is your best friend here...afterall, you are probably going to be the only one doing the listening while on the computer.

I just picked up a set of these at a local mom & pop store for $143.00 PixelUSA (BestBuy did not have them in stock but I was able to listen and demo them extensively!!!).

As dorem1 mentions, these speakers are perfect for people looking for speakers for playing music. I could not believe how good these things sounded compared to the Klipsch Promedia 2.1's that were sitting next to them at BestBuy. In my opinion, the Klipsch's really sounded aweful (I had planned to buy the Klipsch's)...I believe there must have been something wrong with the setup even though the wiring looked correct (phase wise) but the highs were lacking and somewhat muffled; the bass was distorted at moderate levels. The Altecs were simply stunning!! The Logitech Z-560's that they had sounded every bit as good also. But it was the look and feel of the Altecs that won me over!

I have an older model Altec Lansing speaker set -- ACS-495. The set is 2 speakers @ 10W each and a 40W sub. They sound really good. I paid $80 back in 1999, because they were discontinued by then and rlaced with ACS-395. I have not felt a need to upgrade my PC speakers as of yet...AL makes good stuff.
