Heres the story....about 2 weeks ago I bought a ATI 9800 Pro from Besy Buy for my brothers computer because he wanted something to play Doom 3. So I get the card home install it and it seems to work OK, no problems. After about 4 days, the card goes sour..will not power on. so I pulled card from his computer and try it in mine, same thing, screen will not come on. I put MY 6800 back in my and computer fired right up.

I then tried to take the card back to Best Buy to exchange it for another one...you have 30 from date of purchase. I could not find my receipt but I did not think it would be a big problem, I mean I just wanted to exchange it for the same thing. I take it to the service desk and the girl says can I see your receipt, I said I miss placed it. She then tells me that there is nothing that they can do and they can't help me!!!!!!!! I was like WTF !, let me see the manager. So I talk to him and he proceeds to tell me the same thing!!!

Why are they being like such ass about this ? I paid out $265.00 for a retail card so if something went wrong with the card, I could return it, no probem, but this is not right, I mean they are screwing me over just because of my damn receipt !!!

What should I do ?...Since I'm having problems with the ATI, I want to put more money to it and get him a 6800 GT like I have. But they won't honor anything, WTF??

You lost the fvcken receipt. How do they know you bought it there? Its not their fault.

This is coming from a guy who hates Best Buy and would never shop there. That said, I figure most large chains wouldn't mind an exchange without a receipt. I hate Best Buy.

This is my first time trying an ATI. I should not have to RMA a brand new card still under the store warranty.

I should have never bought him a ATI, I should have went with nvidia in the first place

Did you use a credit card to pay for the thing? If so, maybe you and your purchase information are in their system, and they can pull up the record of your purchase so you won't need a receipt.

But that's pure speculation, and most Best Buy employees I've met probably couldn't figure out how/probably aren't willing to do that anyway. So... I don't know. Sucks about your card, though.

Edit: Though I totally disagree with your ATi bashing. It's not their fault. Not only did they not manufacture most of the components on the card, every hardware model is susceptible to bad apples and the occasional failure.

It's not under the store warranty. If you had bought their in store warranty, then it would be covered, even without a receipt, because they would have registered the purchase with your name\phone #.

You lost the reciept, quit bitching.

So... Its ATI's fault you lost your receipt and a dumbass reseller won't give you what you want? Still under store warranty, and you're blaming the manufacturer...

That said, I figure most large chains wouldn't mind an exchange without a receipt.

How would the store know it was within the allowed return period?

They have the ability to look up transactions perfectly fine...they just choose not to. They are a perfect example of poor customer service.

Is it so hard to keep a recepit? From my experience in retail, I can tell you customers are theiving assholes, so don't bitch about a return policy that probably helps keep prices down, or at least maybe helps pay the underpaid workers a little more (probably just goes in corperate pockets tho).

Anyway, enjoy your luxury $200+ coaster, live and learn.

Really I did not lose the receipt, my brother did. He is mentally retarded and I put the receipt in his dresser and sometimes he tears up his room and wrecks stuff

They wouldn't. But, under the name of Customer Service and the device (looking unabused) and all original packaging, they'd take an exchange and give you a new one.

If he bought it with a CC. What if he bought it with cash? How do they know he bought it and all that? It proves nothing. Again, some stores will take an exchange because they want you to come back and spend more money.

Then wtf are you so pissed at ATI for.

A cash purchase such as his should have warranted the employee asking for his personal information. Need more info from the OP...

Unless they know his invoice #, there's no way to find his particular transaction. It's not linked to his name or anything, and credit card #s are not printed on reciepts, so you can't use a credit card to search the reciept database. Or he could have used cash.... Basically, you're talkin' out of your ass.

I think he's just thinking of CC, where they have a system for that. Where losing your receipt is OK.

They don't have a system for people who lose their reciepts, unless you buy the in store warranty. Same way with every electronics store.

Another reason to go to Circuit City if you have to make a purchase locally.

I've gone back to CC 5 weeks after making a purchase to get a copy of the reciept.
