I'm looking for a new case, preferably a large mid-tower or a small fulltower, something that has plenty of space for cooling, has the power supply located above the motherboard tray (as opposed to along side of it), and is easily mod-able; does a case like this exist?

I have the Antec SX1030 and I like it alot!! Its a very large mid tower case with good cooling. It comes with two rear fans, and it also has holders to add two more front fans. Also, one of the front fans sits inside of a 3.5 drive cage so it'll cool your hard drives too. You can find this case on Pricewatch for around 80 bucks. Search for some reviews and you'll see that people like this case.

I'm currently planning on running a p3 inside of it, then later upgrading to an athlon.

In that case i personally like the 1030B for style, or Directron does their own version (in stealth black) a bit cheaper w/o PSU though

directron

scope out this site, lots of cases and good customer reviews/ links to reviews

whats the difference between the antec sx830's and sx1030's? to me it only looks like the 830 has that latch door and the 1030 has the lockable front panel

As far as i know that is the only difference (and a few $$)

The door is cool for hiding ugly beige peripherals

that's because Antec's the best. I'd go for SX830...only because openning/closing the door is a pain in a$$.

kinda like bitching that everybody likes a benz, a bmw or a bentley. some cases set the standard. these are those cases. if you want something better, get a chenbro genie.

I just saw those aluminum cases at the computer show today. And man! They are expensive! For the standard mid tower, it's about $125. I mean it seemed high quality and all. Had a cool 5 HD drive bay. And the whole MB setup slides out (without having to remove any cables or your PCI devices. Even had thumb screws for the plug in cards. That's one hell of a case, but how does this price compare to the antec ones? I mean, I always thought a case was a case. I usually buy those $30 ones that come with the 300/350W PS.

My vote is for the Antec 1030/830 cases or the equivelent. For the money you get a great case with plenty of room, great stock cooling, really nice PSU, great build quality and nice looking too.

The only drawback is the lack of removeable mobo tray, but there is plenty of room, so there is not really a need for it.

The only thing you have to decide is whether you want the door or not.

Drive door cover = 1030
w/o door = 830

I've looked long and hard and I can't find a better case than this one for the money. Sure I would like a high priced aluminum case, but do I really need one?

frizzlefry,
what cases are you talking about? any links? i'm currently looking for a decent size case (no more than 4x5.25", must have 2x3.5" and as many hard drives as possible). Up to now, my best bets as far as sheer hard drive numbers are the Chenbro Genie and the aluminum Coolermaster 200 (kinda on the $$$ side though).
Any other ideas for lotsa hdd's in a tower format? don't particularly want a server case guys!!

nsxdemon: ever drive one? they rock! hehe buddy of man races a V12 s600. hehehe, we kicked butt!

Anyways, I don't know the brand. I got the flyer somewhere. I'll try finding it. all I know is that they are manufactured in Taiwan. They looked exactly like the ones at the soldam website. Its a great case but I don't have that kind of money to blow. There were two intake fans and one exhaust fan with I believe room for one more. It has an extension cable for those jumpers which allows you to slide out the mobo without disconnecting. All aluminum case and a carbon fiber decoration (it was fake).

Edit: Ok found a link to the same product I saw. Not the same reseller tho. PC Mods They have some interesting stuff (neons). Anyways, the PC60 I think the were selling for $185 and the PC12 for like $125. I'm not sure tho. But I'll post the dist info tomorrow morning or so.

Edit2: Local CA distributor @ Bridgeview. It is a Lian Li Al case. I think this case rocks! Has a built in 3 position switch for intake fan speed. Now that I'm really looking at it, I may get one. They come is 3/4 different colors from these guys. There's a light blue, light purple, the silver color, and I think they have black. Anyways, there's your info. I can get a discount on the price. If you're out of CA, just tell them that a buddy told you about them and that you want to have the show price. They may do it, I'm not sure. I'll be calling them tomorrow to see what price I can get.

HansanSystems: Here's a new case for you, the Enlight 7237. Its a pretty popular case. It comes with one fan up front, and room for one more in the back. Its pretty roomy for a mid tower but its not as big as the Antec SX1030 (I have both cases). One of the best things about the Enlight is that its really cheap. On pricewatch.com, you can find one with a 300 watt power supply for around 50 bucks!! I personaly like the SX1030 better because its bigger, has room for more fans, and you can get it in black too.
