Best Computer Builder

Hi, I know most people here probably build their own computers, but I don't have the time. I just want to order a computer according to my custom configuration without paying a big price (like Falcon or Alienware). Anyone else know of any good companies to get a good custom rig from? Thanks ahead of time.

Only takes about 2 hours to put one together.

If I had the bucks to blow paying someone else though I would go with Alienware or Falcon.

Dell. They have excellent product and customer support. They don't f*ck around.

ya I didn't have the time to spend gathering parts and the like for this system so I got it from dell. Got an awesome price (I was suprised) and I got my computer 6 days later.

And I'm really happy about it.

You can't go wrong with Dell, I've had mine almost 4 years and Dell continues to give excellent support on it. For example; I recently had to replace the power button assembly on the front panel which was no longer on warranty. I had to pay the $8 for the part but Dell shipped it free of charge and I had it three days from the time I called. You won't find a lot of companies that will give you service like that. Dell is like a Rolls Royce of the computer world.

Recently I have had good experiences with both Dell and Micron. Micron was also willing to deal below the advertised prices - perhaps Dell would too. Don't settle for the Web price, give the sales line a call or an email once you have a system configured on-line. Micron's service is much improved from my past encounters with them.

Anyone know when DELL will be using the 815EP? and the PC with 815EP will be out?
Will it be still called Dimension 4100?
Can't get an answer from anyone at DELL.

I'm gonna go against the flow here and say Gateway. I still have a Pentium Pro 200 I got from them 5 years ago and have yet to have any problem with it. Aside from that, I do technical support on campus here at good old Clemson and I see more problems with Dells than I do with Gateways. Compaqs and HP's are pure evil.

Another vote for Dell. They seem to always beat Gateway in price. I've had my P-II 400 since Jan '99, and after several upgrades, she's still running great. Customer support is top-notch.

Ummm... I would more relate Dell to the Hyundai(sp?) of the computer world. Crap performance, decent warranty which you use alot. A custom built computer system will have FAR better performance, and in my experience with the multitude of custom jobbers, better reliability.

Seriously though, why not build a computer yourself? I used to be a big supporter of pre-built computers, until I got fed up with Gateway so much I cannibalized my P3-933 system and built a custom system with the components.

Well, I now run at 1050Mhz 24/7 on the same chip, get FAR greater performance from both ram timings and the overclock, and haven't had a BSOD in over 7 months in Win98SE. Can't say I ever went more than 2 weeks with the Gateway setup without having a BSOD.

Warranties are just for piece of mind, if you have even half a clue of what's going on in a computer and use quality components, you should never have to replace anything. BTW, individual parts also come with warranties, so a custom built PC is not without its back-up.

I beg to differ. I've had very few problems with mine and Dell consistently ranks on top or near the top in system reviews...year after year. And when you do have a problem you'll get the support you need. Sure..you can have a higher performance system custom built..for a price, but overall Dell offers a very good, stable system that you can generally depend on...that's why they manage to stay on top.
