I'm using the stock Win2k defragger, which works alright but it's awfully SLOW. What's a good speedy defrag proggy?

I use currently Diskeeper 6, but there is nothing wrong with Diskeeper 5, I've used that for the last 9 months with no problems whatsoever. The good thing about the diskeeper products is that you can schedule them to run when you are away from your computer and yes they do increase performance of your box, keeping a HD defragged constantly is the key to making it run much faster.

Why don't you try Norton utilities 2001, if you dont feel like buying it, there are many places on the web where you can download the full version. :wink wink:

I'm running win 98se so i don't use norton utils 2001, i use 4.0, still good. Defrags fast.

norton speed disk 5.1 or norton utils 2001 for NT/2K (contains speed disk).

speed disk optimises your files, not just files, but your pagefile (swapfile).... it will place your pagefile at the outer most edge of your hdd for fastest access and best performance....it does the most and does it very, very fast.

the best, bar none.

Be careful with Norton software. It trashed my Win2K install.

You could try PerfectDisk.

I don't like that disclaimer in diskeeper 6 which says it might not defrag drives partitioned using partition magic! I use it anyway..

I prefer PerfectDisk. It's way faster than Diskeeper on my system, and you can schedule it as well. In fact Diskeeper 6.0 was a serious dog. I'd defragged 13 partitions (same time) before Diskeeper was done with one. I'd download both and see which is best on your system.

What version of Norton Software did you use for Win2K? Are you just talking about SpeedDisk or did you install the other utilities too?
